Motorcycle fatality – Belton Drive

A motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle on Belton Drive Saturday night resulted in the death of one person.
Anderson County EMS, Medshore EMS, and Williamston Police Department responded to a
motor vehicle collision at 324 Belton Drive, in Williamston, around 9:46 pm Saturday night.
Thomas Clayton Barnaby, 50 of Pelzer, was treated at the scene and transported by EMS personnel to Prisma in Greenville with severe injuries. Don McCown, Chief Deputy Coroner said Barnaby subsequently succumbed to his injuries at 10:45 pm.
He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the impact, McCown said.
According to McCown, the investigation indicates that the decedent was driving his motorcycle traveling West on Belton Drive in Williamston and apparently attempted to pass a vehicle that was traveling West and had stopped to make a left turn, the victim’s motorcycle sideswiped the stopped vehicle, causing the motorcycle to crash, resulting in the victim being ejected from the motorcycle and striking the pavement.

The investigation is on-going by the Anderson County Office of the Coroner and the Williamston Police Department.
