Classic dark comedy stars Pelzer’s Cameron Woodson

Opening this Friday the 13th at the Historic Pelzer Auditorium is the 1939 play Arsenic and Old Lace, made famous by the 1944 film starring Cary Grant. The play centers around drama critic Mortimer Brewster, whose engagement announcement is upended when he discovers a corpse in his elderly aunts’ window seat. Mortimer rushes to tell Abby and Martha before they stumble upon the body themselves, only to learn that the two old women aren’t just aware of the dead man in their parlor, they killed him! Between his aunts’ penchant for poisoning wine, a brother who thinks he’s Teddy Roosevelt, and another brother using plastic surgery to hide from the police—not to mention Mortimer’s own hesitancy about marriage—it’ll be a miracle if Mortimer makes it to his wedding. Arsenic and Old Lace is a classic dark comedy about the only thing more deadly than poison: family. The production stars Pelzer resident Cameron Woodson, a 2018 graduate of Palmetto High who recently completed his degree in Acting from Coastal Carolina University, as Mortimer Brewster. Also featured in the cast of 14 are Alex Robinson of Williamston as Teddy Brewster and Jesse Winner of Piedmont as the villian, Jonathan Brewster. The show runs for 7 performances October 13-22, with show times of Thursday and Fridays at 7:30pm and Saturdays and Sundays at 3pm. Tickets are only $15, with $12 for seniors, military, and students and can be reserved by calling (864)947-8000 or going to www.milltownplayers.org.
