Gene McWherter

Eugene Earl “Gene” McWherter of Williamston, husband of the late Joane Rita Budziack McWherter, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2024.

Born in Miami, FL, he was the son of the late Earl Eugene and Bernice Schoen McWherter. He was a retired machinist for Eastern Airlines and Lockheed Martin.

He is survived by his children, Earl E. McWherter of Williamston, Sheri Rivers of Williamston, and Jay Paul McWherter of Union; two grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 2, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary with the funeral service to follow in the mortuary chapel.

A graveside service will be held Friday, May 3, at 1:00 p.m. at Westwood Gardens, 1155 Everee Inn Road, Griffin, GA, 30224.

Roberto Arreola

Roberto Arreola of Piedmont, 24, husband of Daniela Lizeth Quiroz Barragàn, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2024.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of Roberto Perez Arreola of Piedmont and Rosa Reyes Ramirez (Angel Dominguez) of Piedmont. He was employed with A&D Concrete Finisher, Greenville.

In addition to his wife of Durango, Mexico, parents and step-father, he is survived by daughter, Grace Esmeralda of Durango, Mexico; brothers, Nathan Arreola, Saul Dominguez, Angel Dominguez, all of Piedmont; and sisters, Sabine Arreola, Angelique Dominguez, Angellina Dominguez, all of Piedmont.

Visitation was April 27 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The service followed in the mortuary chapel. Burial was at Graceland Cemetery West.

Betty Jean Sims

Belton – Betty Jean Kellett Sims, 86, widow of Abner Bruce Sims, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at her home.

   Born in the home where she died, she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Emma Grace Latham Kellett. She retired from Anderson School District One where she taught English, Music, and Chorus. She was also former president of Lee and Sims Drilling Services, Inc.  Betty Jean was a member of Washington Baptist Church where she played the piano for many years.

   Survivors include sons, John Sims (Jean) of Simpsonville, Don Sims (Julie) of Pelzer, and Bill Sims (Michelle) of Simpsonville; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

   She was predeceased by a brother, William B. Kellett.

The funeral service was Sunday, April 28, at 3:00 p.m. at Washington Baptist Church with visitation following in the Family Life Center. Burial was held in the church cemetery.

Doris Tompkins

Williamston – Doris Trotter Tompkins, 87, wife of 70 years to Herman D. Tompkins, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2024.

   Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late C.M. and Eunice McCoy Trotter. She was a lifetime member of White Plains Baptist Church.

   In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, David M. Tompkins (Deborah), Michael Brent Tompkins (Karen), and Phillip S. Tompkins (Diane); brother, Terry Trotter (Deana); 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

   She was predeceased by a sister, Sara Adamek.

The family received friends 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Monday, April 29, at Gray Mortuary, Pelze. Funeral service followed at 3:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel with Rev. Brad Ramey officiating. Burial was at White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery.

   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to White Plains Baptist Church, 1435 Easley Hwy, Pelzer, SC 29669.

Bridget Powers

Bridget Dee Honea Powers of Piedmont, 63, wife of Kelvin Wayne Powers, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2024.

   Born in Denver, CO, she was a daughter of Shirley Ann Troutman Griffiths and the late Paul David Dirk.  She retired from GE in Greenville.

 In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by daughters, Tiffany Ann Dempsey of Piedmont and Jessica Evelyn Honea of Piedmont; sister, Vicki Griffiths of Easley; brother, Eric Griffiths of Sweden; and five grandchildren.

A graveside memorial service will be held Thursday, May 9, at 2:00 p.m. at Oconee Memorial Park, Seneca.

Debbie Stegall

Debbie Coe Stegal of Honea Path, 64, wife of Charlie Stegall, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2024.

   Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of Doris Owens Griswold of Piedmont and the late Kenneth Gray Coe. She was a homemaker and a member of Bessie Road Baptist Church.

   In addition to her husband, she is survived by son, Damon Paul Strickland; daughter, Crystal English of Virginia; sister, Nancy Coe; brother, Jimmy Coe, both of Piedmont; and two grandchildren.

Visitation was held April 29 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with the funeral following  in the mortuary chapel. Burial was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Vera “Bibbie” Scott

Vera “Bibbie” Allen Heatherly Scott of Piedmont, 88, widow of the late Claude Lee Heatherly, passed away Friday, April 26, 2024.

Born in Piedmont, she was a daughter of the late Lem and Eva Chapman Allen. She was a member of Pelzer Church of God.

She is survived one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer.

Madge “Ange” McDonald

   Belton – Madge Ann “Ange” Whitney McDonald of Belton, 77, wife of Jerry Lee McDonald, passed away Friday, April 26, 2024.

Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Katherine Mozelle Coates Whitney. Co-owner of Buckeye Machine, Inc., she was a member of Washington Baptist Church and attended Oak Pointe Church. 

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters, Shelli McDonald, and Sherri McDonald, both of Pelzer; and grandson, Brighton McDonald.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 1, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Washington Baptist Church with the funeral to follow at 2:00 p.m.  Burial will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Brian Rasmussen

Brian Ray Rasmussen of Honea Path, 51, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2024.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of Linda Jean Bayne Rasmussen of Honea Path and the late Michael Claude “Mike” Rasmussen. He served in the U.S. Army, was formerly employed with Danfoss Power Solutions in Easley, and was a member of Little River Baptist Church in Honea Path.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughters, Brianne Gray of Wellford and Brooklyn Rasmussen of Hendersonville, NC; brother, Mark Rasmussen of the home; sister, Melissa Craigo of the home; two grandchildren.

Brian Davenport

Williamston – Larry Brian Davenport, 52, passed away Monday, April 29, at his home.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of George Larry Davenport and the late Mary Frances Campbell Davenport. He was employed with Larry’s Used Cars. 

Brian was a member of Union Grove United Methodist Church and a honorary member of the Hejaz Shriners.

   In addition to his father, he is survived by step-mother, Cheryl Lee Chandler Davenport of the home; brothers, Kevin Davenport (Shannon) of Williamston and Chad Roper (Chasity) of Honea Path; and sister, Nicole Cornell (Tyler) of Williamston.

   The family will receive friends 10:00 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. Thursday, May 2, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with the funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. in the mortuary chapel. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.
