The Piedmont Emergency Relief Center (PERC) will be accepting donations of food and money during the Spring Water Festival this Friday and Saturday. “We are very much in need of spaghetti sauce, peanut butter, and cereal,” said PERC spokesperson Maria Hollis.

Other items they are in need of include: Jelly, Soup, Hamburger/Tuna/Chicken Helper, Tomato Sauce, Dried Beans, Rice, Juice, Dried or Canned Milk, Ramen Noodles, Crackers, Grits and Flour.

Also Canned Pasta (Ravioli, Beef O’Roni), Canned Vegetables, Sugar, Cooking Oil, Pancake Syrup, Boxed Potato Mixes, Pork and Beans, Loaves of Sandwich Bread, Cornmeal or Biscuit Mix (Bisquick, Jiffy Cornmeal Mix, etc.) Drinks (bottled water, Gatorade, Capri Sun, etc.) and Paper Products.

They also need Personal Hygiene Items (wrapped soap, deodorant, shampoo, feminine products).

“Please consider donating just one of the items on this list and bring it to Piedmont Emergency Relief Center’s display table at the festival,” Hollis said.

“If you need help, come see us, and if you can help and are attending the festival, bring one item off our list to donate,” said Hollis.

PERC can also offer help with food stamp applications which can be filed by computer at their office. “The process is so annoying and time consuming for most, that even those who do qualify sometimes do not apply,” Hollis said.

PERC has been helping persons in the community for more than 6 years. Their service area includes Piedmont, Pelzer, Williamston, Powdersville/Easley area (Zip Code 29642 only) and a part of the Greenville area (Zip Code 29611 only).

For those in other areas, a Care Box will be provided along with a referral to other assistance.

PERC relies on donations of food and money from individuals, churches, schools, civic groups, and local businesses.

Hours are Mon. and Sat. 9am-12pm; Tues. and Thurs. 4 pm-7 pm.
