Development Standards
1. MEETINGS HELD:
The Land Use Board of Zoning Appeals met on Thursday April 13, 2017 and approved 15 variances and tabled one variance for 30 days for additional information.

1. UPCOMING MEETINGS:
The Planning Commission will hear a land use permit application for a large scale multi-family apartment complex located on Hood Road, Powdersville. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday May 9, 2017 at 6:00PM
The Planning Commission will hear another land use permit application for a large scale townhome development located at Raven Hill Subdivision on Jackson Drive. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday May 9, 2017 at 6:00PM
The Planning Commission will also hear a residential subdivision consisting of 96 lots located 850’ Southwest of Circle Road and Homestead Road intersection. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday May 9, 2017 at 6:00PM
Anderson County Citizens Advisory Committee will hear a Special Exception application for Gospel Light Baptist Church Parking Lot Expansion on Wednesday May 2, 2017 at 6:30PM.

Roads & Bridges
1. 11 vacancies: (2)-Sr. Equipment operators, (4)-CDL truck drivers, (4)-Equipment operators, (1)-Sr. Bridge Tech.
2. Grading Crew repaired a 72″ cross-over pipe on Devonshire Road by adding an 8’ section to one end and building shoulders.
3. Bridge crew repaired guard rails on Shiloh Road damaged by falling trees during storm; also repaired guardrails on Shackleburg Road damaged in an accident.
4. Sign crews started re-signing Key Street in an attempt to slow traffic in an area where repeated wrecks occur.
5. Asphalt crew strip-patched Pineland Meadows and finished the week repairing potholes throughout the County.
6. Ditching crew worked in the Piedmont area this week: opening clogged pipes, cleaning ditches.
7. Vegetation crew had 44 work requests after storms last week for cleanup; some roads are taking all day due to the number of trees blown over/down.
Solid Waste
1. Have part time position open (MEO II) and 3 full time positions open (Truck Driver, MEO II and MEO II Landfill Operator).
2. The South Carolina Litter Control Association and PalmettoPride kicked off the Zero Tolerance Litter Campaign on April 5, 2017 at the State House for the month of April. Anderson County Environmental Enforcement continues to participate in the Campaign.
3. Environmental Enforcement met with some businesses and facilities to discuss litter in their parking areas and break areas. All have stated they will help with cleaning up the litter in these areas.
4. Picked up 2 illegally dumped tires on Highway 252 this week and disposed of them at the Anderson Regional MRF.
5. Coordinated with Powdersville Elementary to provide recycling bins for the teacher workroom and front office.
6. Staff has utilized Palmetto Pride Grant funding to purchase safety vests and gloves for the various upcoming cleanups.
7. Staff met with Sonya Crandall from Envision Williamston to provide cleanup supplies for their Earth Day Cleanup on April 22nd.
8. Delivered cleanup supplies to the Heritage Garden Club for their cleanup on April 11th. This group cleans the Beltline that runs behind Target and Lowes on a regular basis.
9. Completed DHEC Quarterly Reports for the Waste Tire, Waste Oil and Residential Electronics Recycling Grants.
10. We have 3 inmates for the convenience centers and 3 for the MRF this week due to a shortage of inmates on work detail at the Detention Center. We appreciate the Detention Center’s efforts in providing us with the inmates.

Wastewater
1. Reviewed flow meter data from ReWa to determine inflow and infiltration reduction in Powdersville.
2. Discussed new subdivision in the Hwy 81 and I 85 areas. Also discussed project schedule for Shiloh Church Road Bridge replacement.
3. Installed a cross pipe at the Enclave at River Reserve Subdivision to allow access to the ROW. We also had to raise a manhole that was covered due to construction in the subdivision.
4. We cleaned a 6 inch sewer line in Stonehaven Subdivision using the SL-Rat demo equipment, it did detect there were roots in the line that would have caused future problems.
5. Performed (4) residential sewer tap inspections.
6. Last section of Rivermill Subdivision Sewer Phase 1 was tied in this week, testing of new line is scheduled for Friday.
7. Manholes installed @ Pennington Farm Subdivision were vacuumed tested this week, results were sent to DHEC for approval.
8. We had 1 after hour call for a total of 1 hour at Wren High School due to power being restored and the generator was no longer needed.
Animal Shelter
1. 3 full time Animal Caretaker positions open, 4 part time Animal Caretaker positions open and a part time maintenance position open.
2. PAWS took in total of 107 animals this week (12 owner surrender, 6 return adoptions, 55 from animal control, 34 strays).
3. We did 54 adoptions!  Two animals died, 5 were euthanized, 15 returned to their owners and 28 sent to rescue.
4. The clinic did 76 spay/neuter surgeries.
5. We had $634 in cash donations and approximately $225 in food, toys and supplies donated.
6. Building and grounds came out and landscaped down the driveway to help beautify the facility.
7. 1-800-Pet-Meds agreed to make a large donation of medications!
8. We were able to save 95% of the animals in our care this week!
