The Anderson County Council met Tuesday, and acted on several issues. These are the highlights:
Third reading approval was given to the 2021-2022 budget, which manages to add positions in the Sheriff’s Department while avoiding any tax increase. A separate millage increase for the fire commission was approved in a lightly attended referendum recently.
The County will also allocate additional funds for improvement and development of Dolly Cooper Park, which has been the object of approximately $400,000 in funding in the last several months. Those improvements brought one ball field up to playing condition, as well as the opening of a short innertube loop totally within the park.

The park will also be the site of the launch of the Saluda River Rally, which will be held this weekend. There are two options, a nine and a fifteen mile kayak trip. Bring your own boat. Thirty five dollar registration fee for either option. Tee shirt, BBQ plate (one per registration) at the Saluda River Grill in Piedmont. Campsites are available for the entire weekend at Dolly Cooper Park.
In Tuesday’s special District Two County Council election, to fill the seat vacated by long time Councilwoman Gracie Floyd’s death, Glenn Davis won handily over David Standard by a margin of 678 votes (68.4%) to 310 votes, (31.4 %) votes. Less than a thousand voters turned out, or 7.4% of the eligible voters.
