Anderson County Emergency Management Director David Baker released the latest figures for COVID 19. While he made no such judgment or statement, it appears the virus is losing steam, despite widespread relaxing of restrictions on large gatherings, such as football games and fall festivals around the Upstate.

SCDHEC reports the numbers to the various counties in a format that breaks the statistics down by zip codes. Of the 19 zip codes reported as of October 18, only five in Anderson County saw an increase in new cases. Of those five, none reported more than five new cases.
Pelzer (29669) saw a drop of 29 in the number of cases; Williamston was down seven cases, Piedmont was up 1, and
Powdersville, which encompasses two zip codes, was up by less than five cases. Belton lead the county with 30 less cases.
Over the course of the entire COVID event, which is approaching two years in length, Anderson county has reported a total of 30,475 cases, with 645 deaths attributed to the virus or complications. Currently, there are 943 active cases in the county and 28,887 inactive.
