School District One to offer summer meals

Free lunch program

Anderson School District One will offer a Summer Food Service Program which will provide free meals weekdays to children ages 4 to 18 throughout the district. Lunch will be provided free of charge weekly beginning June 8 through July 29. Open serving will be offered on-site at three area schools. Palmetto Elementary, Spearman Elementary and Wren High School will provide lunch daily from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. For those unable to participate at one of the on-site school locations, there will be seven delivery sites located throughout the district.

Delivery sites will be at the following locations:

Williamston – Mineral Spring Park 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Restoration Chapel 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Pelzer – Pelzer Church of God 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Tabernacle Baptist Church 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

West Pelzer – Midway Manor Apartments 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.;

Powdersville – Heritage Trace Apartments 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. ; Powdersvile High 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m.

The summer meal program is administered through the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).

District One is reimbursed for the expenses of the program by the Federal government according to Associate Superintendent Robbie Binnicker.

“This is an incredible opportunity for our communities to partner with our school district to keep our children fed during the summer months,” said Deborah Joye, Director of Student Nutrition Services for Andeson School District One.
