On Sunday, Oct. 4, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) reported 619 new confirmed cases and 20 new probable cases of the novel coronavirus COVID-19. DHEC also reported 12 additional confirmed deaths and no new probable deaths.

This brings the total number of confirmed deaths to 3,255, and 198 probable deaths.

The total number of individual test results reported to DHEC Saturday statewide was 5,228 (not including antibody tests) and the percent positive was 11.8%.

On Oct. 3, DHEC reported 649 new confirmed cases, 32 new probable cases and 31 additional confirmed deaths and 2 new probable deaths.

After further investigation, a pediatric death of a resident of Barnwell County that was initially reported to DHEC and included in the Oct. 1 daily news release and web update has been reclassified as not a death. The individual tested positive for COVID-19 but did not die. The information was incorrectly reported to DHEC through a data entry error. There remain two pediatric COVID-19 deaths in the state.

The total number of individual test results reported to DHEC Friday statewide was 1,991 (not including antibody tests) and the percent positive was 32.6%.

The high percent positive reported out Saturday is a result of the delayed electronic lab reports (ELRs) that DHEC is processing. A detailed breakdown of the delayed test results per day during the time period affected, Sept. 24-Oct 2., is being compiled and will be provided.

On Friday (Oct. 2) DHEC) that 23,902 COVID-19 test results have been updated and reflected in the DHEC online dashboard by the date the result was reported to the health care provide. This includes 22,423 negative test results and 1,479 positive test results

The delay in the electronic lab reports (ELRs) being updated in the agency’s internal database occurred from Sept. 24-Oct. 2 and did not impact patient notification of their test results. Test results continued to be reported back to health care providers and relayed to patients, per standard practice.

In an effort to make improvements to DHEC’s internal process for ELR reporting, a technical update to the database resulted in unexpected delays for ELRs being fully included in our daily reports from Sept. 24-Oct 2. The issue has been resolved and testing and case numbers will resume normal reporting beginning tomorrow. A list of these delayed test results for each day impacted by the database issue, Sept. 24-Oct. 2, is being compiled and will be provided for a clear breakdown by day.

On Friday, DHEC reported 256 new confirmed cases and 67 new probable cases. DHEC also reported 12 additional confirmed deaths and 1 new probable death related to COVID.

The total number of individual test results reported to DHEC on Thursday statewide was 1,670 (not including antibody tests) and the percent positive was 15.3%.
