Woodmont High Student arrested for “replica firearm” in backpack

A fourteen year-old Woodmont High School student is in custody today after School Resource Officers discovered a replica firearm in the student’s backpack.

School Resource Officers at the school were contacted this afternoon by students and staff after receiving reports that the 14 year-old possibly had a firearm in his possession and had made threats towards another student. Subsequently, the school was placed on lockdown and deputies swiftly identified and located the student.

During the course of the investigation School Resource Officers located a replica firearm that was actually an airsoft gun in the student’s backpack which was in his possession. The student was taken into custody without incident and no students or staff were injured.

Sheriff Hobart Lewis had this to say, “Another example of the effectiveness of our community working together with law enforcement. We preach all the time, if you see something, say something and in this case information was reported to our wonderful

School Resource Officers who acted swiftly and were able to thankfully resolve what could have been an extremely dangerous situation. Kudos to these students and the staff at Woodmont High School.”
