The Caroline Community Center is hosting its annual Juneteenth celebration on June 24th, from 11AM to 2PM, bringing the community together to honor the historic event while focusing on unity, empowerment, and the future. The celebration, themed “Embracing Our Roots, Empowering Our Future,” features a variety of engaging activities and a short program highlighting the significance of Juneteenth.
The festivities kick off with a health fair, where local health organizations and practitioners will offer free screenings, consultations, and valuable information on various health topics. The goal is to promote overall well-being within the community, an essential element for growth and progress.
Children can enjoy a wide range of fun activities, including face painting, storytelling with African American folktales, and arts and crafts with cultural themes. These activities not only entertain but also provide an opportunity to learn about the rich history and heritage of African American culture.
The event also features a lively game of bingo, with winners receiving exciting prizes. A short program follows, with a local leader or historian as the keynote speaker discussing the significance of Juneteenth and its relevance today. The program will also showcase dance or musical performances by local groups celebrating African American culture.
Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, marks the day when Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the abolition of slavery in 1865. This year’s celebration aims to bring the community together while fostering a spirit of unity and progress.
Attendees will have the chance to win door prizes at the end of the event. The celebration aims to create a sense of community and togetherness while educating about the importance of Juneteenth and the continuous journey toward freedom, unity, and progress.
Caroline Community Center invites everyone to come out and enjoy this meaningful celebration with family and friends. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit the Caroline Community Center website, www.carolinecommunitycenter.com.
