Anderson man drowns in Saluda River

The Anderson County Fire Department, Anderson County Fire Department Technical Rescue
Team, Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, Anderson County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team,
Anderson County EMS, Medshore EMS and the Office of the Coroner responded to Capers
Street in Pelzer around 5 pm Wednesday for a victim missing and presumably in the water.
Anderson County Sheriff’s Office Divers recovered the victim around 7 pm. The victim, identified by Deputy Coroner Ty Blackwell as Joshua Tyrese Fair, 23, of Anderson, was
pronounced deceased on scene.
According to reports, the investigation indicates the victim died as a result of Freshwater Drowning and the case has been ruled accidental.
The preliminary investigation reveals that the victim was at the river with a friend fishing and apparently at some point had dropped his cellphone in the river. According to friends, as they were preparing to leave the area, the victim went back to the area where he had lost his cell phone and apparently fell into the water from the bank of the river. The victim was not wearing a Lifejacket and alcohol intoxication appears to be a contributing factor.
The investigation is on-going by the Anderson County Office of the Coroner and the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.
