Books now open for filing in West Pelzer – For two council seats, mayor’s seat

Books are now open for filing for two council seats and the mayor’s seat that are coming open in the Town of West Pelzer. The West Pelzer election will be held on Tuesday, November 7.
West Pelzer Mayor Blake Sanders recently announced that he will not be seeking re-election to the Mayor’s seat. The seats on Council currently held by Tom Scarfo and Jim Riddle will both be open in this election. Scarfo is serving the unexpired term left vacant by the resignation of Pat Alexander. Councilman Jim Riddle announced that he plans to run for Mayor, which will leave his seat vacant.

Anyone desiring to be a candidate for one of the offices may file at the West Pelzer Municipal Center, 30 Main Street West Pelzer. Books will be open for filing during regular business hours until August 23, at 12pm. West Pelzer Municipal Center regular business hours: Monday-Thursday 8am-12pm; 1pm-5pm.

The filing fee for the office of Mayor is $50 and Council is $25. This is a non-partisan election, and no party affiliation shall be placed on the ballot.

People desiring to vote in the upcoming election must be registered by October 8, 2023. To register, one must contact the Anderson County Board of Voter Registration.

The polling place for the election will be the West Pelzer Fire Department, 101 Main Street, Hwy. 8, West Pelzer.
