Suspect arrested in Williamston carjacking incident

Update – On Saturday (Dec. 16), the suspect in a carjacking that took place in Williamston last Wednesday, Michael Anthony Miles, 60, was arrested and booked into the Anderson County Detention Center.

Williamston Police Chief Kevin Marsee said, “We are grateful for the assistance of Anderson Police Department, Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, and our own investigative team for all the assistance provided in the investigation of this case, the identification of the suspect, and the arrest of Miles for the offense.

Williamston Police investigating carjacking incident

The Williamston Police Department is investigating a carjacking that happened at around 1 p.m. Wednesday.
According to Police Chief Kevin Marsee, an elderly female was carjacked at 614 North Hamilton Street in Williamston. The victim stated that while at her car at this address, an unknown black male approached her and threatened her with a large knife and stole her vehicle. The vehicle contained personal property including the victim’s purse.
The victim required treatment for minor injuries on scene and was not seriously injured.
The suspect fled the scene in the vehicle and a short time later struck another vehicle, then left the scene of the accident near Amity Road in Anderson. The vehicle was spotted by Anderson Police Department and recovered at Friendship Court Apartments at 719 West Mauldin Street in Anderson.
The vehicle was processed by forensics technicians from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office. The victim’s personal property was located and able to be recovered.
On Thursday, (Dec. 14) after crime scene processing and through investigative means. the
suspect was identified as Michael Anthony Miles, age 60.
A warrant was issued by judicial Officer Matt Lollis for the crime of Carjacking warrant # 2023A0420900082 and signed by Investigative Lieutenant Jody Culbertson.
“We are grateful for the assistance of Anderson Police Department, Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, and our own investigative team for all the assistance provided in the investigation of this case and the identification of the suspect,” Chief Marsee said.
