Enjoy Pig in the Park Barbecue Festival
The annual Pig in the Park Barbecue Festival and Cookoff was held Friday and Saturday in Williamston’s Mineral Spring Park. The event featured championship cooking of barbecue, food sales, vendors and other activities. Organizers said turnout for the festival and competition was great with one of the largest crowds the event has had.

The annual Pig in the Park Barbecue Festival and Cookoff was held Friday and Saturday in Williamston’s Mineral Spring Park. The event featured championship cooking of barbecue, food sales, vendors and other activities.
High on the Hog – Matt Talbot took first place in the Boston Butt category with a total score of 16.2573. Sadie Beth BBQ – Gage Blue took second place with a total score of 16.2571. Slinging Meats – David Smith was third with a score of 16.1143.
The Monkey Bottom Boys – George Ray took first place in the rib category with total score of 16.514. Piggy Fins BBQ – Jeremy Smith was second with a score of 16.2571 and Men at Work – Brian Roach was third with total score of 16.2429.
The Eric Scott Band performed live music for the Envision Williamston Friday night concert.
Thirteen cook teams competed for the Championship which included an $1,800 cash purse. 1st place received $1,000; 2nd place $500; 3rd place $300. Trophies were given to 1st thru 3rd place.
The competition offers cash prizes to a limited number of barbecue cooking teams which are limited to four members. Experienced, trained, and Certified SCBA Judges decided who had the best pork barbecue and ribs in the contest.
