Primary election results – Sanders, Galyean in runoff for SC House District 9; Burns, Biggs in runoff for US Senate District 3

Voters will go back to the polls in two weeks to decide who will represent Republicans for SC House District 9 seat and US Senate District 3 seat. A runoff election for both seats will be held Tuesday, June 25.

Sheri Biggs and Mark Burns were the two top vote getters in the Republican primary race for the U. S. House District 3 seat formerly held by Congressman Jeff Duncan. They will compete in a runoff race to be held Tuesday June 25. In Anderson County, Trump-backed Mark Burns received 8,195 votes while Biggs received 7,628. Burns received a total of 26,965 votes across the District. Biggs received 23,408.
In Anderson County, Stewart O. Jones with 3,538 votes, came in third in the primary which had seven candidates running for the Senate 3 seat. Next were Kevin Bishop with 1,927, Franky Franco with 874, Elspeth Snow Murday with 471 and Phil Healy with 312.
In the Democratic primary for U.S. House District 3, Bryon Best received 931 votes in Anderson County to 605 for Frances Guldner. Best received a total of 5,130 to Guldner’s 3,105 across the District.

Local voters in The Journal readership also voted for several SC House races.
SC House District 7 incumbent Jay West was defeated by challenger Lee Gilreath for the House seat, which covers Cheddar, Belton, Honea Path, Starr, Iva to Anderson. In Anderson County, Gilreath garnered 2,703 votes to 1,498 for West. The District also spills over into a portion of Abbenville County and Greenville County. Each candidate received 1 vote in Abbeville County. In Greenville County, West received 52 votes while Gilreath received 43 votes. Totals were Gilreath 2,747, West 1,551.

Of the three candidates vying for the House District 9 seat, former West Pelzer Mayor Blake Sanders and Anderson attorney James Galyean were the two top vote getters and will face off in the June 25 runoff election. Sanders received 1,852 votes, while Galyean received 1,724. Rick Bradshaw had 870. House District 9 covers the area on either side of US Highway 29 from Anderson, Hammond area to Williamston, West Pelzer and Pelzer.

House District 10 incumbent Thomas Beach, who has held the seat since 2022, received 1,851 votes and held off challenger Pam Anthony who received 948. House District 10 extends from West Pelzer to Piedmont, Powdersville into Pickens County and a portion of Greenville County along Hwy. 123. In Greenville County, Beach received 355. Anthony received 149. In Pickens County, Beach received 454, Anthony received 230.

House District 6 incumbent April Cromer, who has held the seat since 2022, defeated challenger Kyle White 3,150 to 2,492. House District 6 extends from Hwy. 76 to Hwy. 86 and includes Pendleton, Sandy Springs, Piercetown and Powdersville area from the Pickens County line to just south of I-85.

Incumbent Don Chapman held on to defeat challenger Sherry Hodges 2,748 to 2,144.
Micah Black was the top vote getter in the race for Solicitor Circuit 10 Circuit Court with 15,404, or 67.4 percent of the vote. Beth Blundy received 4,746 and and Danny Fulmer received 2,703.

Incumbent Coroner Greg Shore had no problem defeating challenger James Hayes. Shore received 15,589 votes, or 69.62 precent of the vote, to Hayes with 6,802 or 30.38 percent.
Anderson County Council District 4 incumbent Brett Sanders held on to his seat with 2,428 votes to 2,013 for challenger Dave Shalaby.

In Council District 5, incumbent Tommy Dunn held on by just 91 votes to defeat Robert Tony McCurry with 1,899 (51.23 percent) to 1,808 (48.77 percent).

In Anderson County there are a total of 122,654 registered voters. There were a total of 25,085 votes cast, or 20.45 percent. Of that 23,542 of the votes cast were in the Republican Primary while 1,543 voted in the Democratic Primary.

In the Greenville SC County House District 28 race, there will be a runoff between Chris Huff and Kerri J. Smith. Huff was the top vote getter of the five candidates running for the seat with 1,493 votes or 38.18 percent. Kerri J. Smith was next with 749, or 19.16 percent. Allen Lellett was just behind with 741, Daniel Rumfelt had 547 and Troy Presser had 380.

All election results are unofficial until certified.

The runoff election to decide who will represent Republicans for SC House District 9 seat and US Senate District 3 seat will be held Tuesday, June 25.

Early Voting for the runoff election will be held June 19 – June 21 at the Anderson County Election office, 301 N Main Street in Anderson and the Powdersville Branch Library, 4 Civic Court in Powdersville. Hours for early voting are 8:30 am to 5 pm through Friday.
