The Piedmont Public Service Commission held its October meeting Monday night. Commissioner Bobby Higgins, who has been battling health issues, was absent, but the agenda was brief and routine.
The Commission approved a request for a street light at the intersection of Hayne Street and Cassandra Street in order to light up a dark area that is being frequented by loiterers. Duke Energy will install the light and the town will pay the power bill for it.
Commissioner Rudy Rhodes reported that Chief Tracy Wallace has received quotes for the roof work scheduled for Station 2.He also reported that the air conditioning unit has been installed at the community building, and that the approval for the PARD funds slated for paving the parking lot is pending before the legislature.
Commissioner Al McAbee reported the activities for the fire department. The numbers were fairly normal month to month, although automobile accident calls nearly doubled from the previous month.
Commission chairman Ed Poore reported that the annual audit should be completed and the results available at the November meeting, which is scheduled for November 18.
