Williamston swears in councilmembers, appoints mayor pro tempore

During their meeting Monday, Williamston Town Council recognized holiday contest winners, appointed a Mayor Pro Tempore and approved a Mutual Aid agreement with the City of Belton.
Councilmembers Tony Hagood (Ward One) and Lee Cole (Ward Two) were also sworn into their respective offices. Hagood is serving his fourth term on council and Cole will serve his first full term. Former Williamston Police Chief Tony Taylor administered the Oath of Office for both men as Mayor Rockey Burgess assisted.
Envision Williamston Executive Director Roberta Hamby and Debbie Chapman, Town of Williamston presented awards to winners of the Christmas Park Displays, Deck the Halls and Williamston Goes Griswold decorating contest (see related story and photos this issue)
Hamby said there were 898 online votes cast for Deck the Halls displays.
Mayor Burgess thanked everyone who participated and stated that “Williamston is a very special place and becomes magical with the Christmas Trees in Town Hall and displays. Thousands of people come to visit.”
Council elected Chris Alexander to serve as Mayor Pro Tempore.
Council unanimously approved a Mutual Aid agreement with the City of Belton. Mayor Burgess said one reason for the new agreement is both towns have new police chiefs. Councilman Cole asked that other mutual aid agreements be reviewed also.
Council then went into executive session to discuss a personnel issue.
