During their meeting Tuesday, West Pelzer Town Council approved a resolution to join the Anderson Area Transportation Study (ANATS) and second reading on an ordinance adopting the 2021 International Building Code.
Mayor Pro Tem Jim Riddle presided with Councilmembers Tom Scarfo and Jeff Lee present.
Council unanimously approved a resolution requesting membership in the Anderson Area Transportation Study (ANATS).
ANATS is a Metropolitan Planning Organization under the SC Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration through which Federal funding for transportation related projects is allocated.
West Pelzer, along with Pelzer and Williamston, have all been grouped under the Greenville Pickens Area (GPATS) Transportation Study for several years.

The most recent census determined that the three towns are now their own “census defined urban area” allowing them the choice of which planning organization they want to be included in.
West Pelzer Town Clerk Paula Payton said West Pelzer can also make appointments to a Citizens Advisory Board associated with ANATS.
Council also unanimously approved second reading on adoption of The International Building Code ordinance. The ordinance governs the conditions and maintenance of all property, buiildings and structures within the town.
West Pelzer Police Chief Scott Stoller reported there were 17 reports written with 12 arrests including damaging a vehicle, grand larceny vehicle, recovery of stolen vehicle, driving under suspension (2) trespassing after notice, family court bench warrant, permit unauthorized person to drive, burglary (2), grand larceny (2), possession of a firearm by a felon (2), breach of peace (2), and resisting arrest.
Two notices issued for ordinance violations such as grass, trash, junk vehicles, etc.
There were 68 tickets written with 6 warnings and one motor vehicle collision.
A demo flock camera installed on Main Street has resulted in the recovery of three stolen vehicles in less than two weeks, Chief Stoller said.
The police department is working with town departments and building officials to clean up several problematic locations that are in violaton of town ordinances.
Upcoming events in West Pelzer will include National Night Out at 6:30 pm August 8, Town clean-up day September 25-29, Coffee with a Cop on October 4, and Mile Long Yard Sale on October 7, 7 am – 1 pm.
