The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and the Anderson County Coroner’s office are investigating the death of an Anderson physician that was reported as a possible drowning.
Deputy Coroner Ty Blackwell identified the victim as Anderson Physician Marshall L. Meadors III, M.D., 65, of Anderson.
According to reports, the Anderson County Fire Department, Anderson County EMS, Medshore EMS, and the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office responded to Midlake Heights Drive in Anderson around 8 pm Monday in reference to a victim located in the lake. Responders removed the victim from the lake, initiated medical treatment and transported to AnMed. Upon arrival at the hospital the victim was pronounced deceased.
The preliminary investigation indicates Meadors died as a result of freshwater drowning, possibly secondary to electrocution, and an autopsy was scheduled to assist in the investigation.
According to the Coroner’s office, the investigation revealed that Meadors was found on the bottom of the lake in approximately 8-10 feet of water and had been missing for approximately 30 minutes prior to discovery.

The investigation further revealed some exposed electrical wires on an electrical box providing power to the dock in which the victim was swimming and an electrical shock may have been a contributory cause of the decedent drowning.
The investigation is ongoing by the Anderson County Office of the Coroner and the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.
