Agents from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) are investigating an officer involved shooting that happened last Thursday during a chase that started in Anderson County and ended in downtown Greenville.
According to reports, Anderson County Deputies attempted to stop a car driving along McNeely and River Road in Powdersville just after 10:30 pm last Thursday (Aug. 17).
Anderson County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Shale Remien said the driver, a teenager, ran a stop sign and continued to ignore deputies’ blue lights. After driving into a ditch, the driver started shooting at deputies, striking a deputy’s car several times.
A vehicle chase began and crossed into Greenville County. Several attempts to stop the car were made and it eventually came to a halt along Academy and College Street in downtown Greenville.
As deputies tried to bring the suspect into custody, the teenager once again opened fire on deputies, striking their car several times and nearly missing deputies. No deputies were injured.
“We are extremely thankful our deputies are safe after the encounter,” Remien said.
The teenager was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital.
