Brenda Martin

Brenda Lanette Garner Martin of Pelzer, 56, wife of Michael Alvin Martin, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2024.

   Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of Mary Oleen Brooks Garner and the late Larry Clyde Garner. She was employed with the Pelzer Post Office. 

 In addition to her husband of the home and mother of Pelzer, she is survived by sons, Kaleb Alvin Martin of Pelzer and Justin Michael Martin of Williamston; sisters, Gayle McQuiddy of Williamston and Gloria Callaham of Pelzer; brothers, Mike and Brian Garner, both of Pelzer; and one grandson.

The family received friends January 10 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

A private graveside service will be held.

Sam Jamison

Samuel Vanderbilt Jamison of Anderson, 88, formerly of Pelzer, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023, three weeks shy of his 89th birthday.

Born in Enoree, SC, he was the son of the late Walter Lee and Ethel Mae Fagan Jamison. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he had a career as with Northrup Grumman and Lockheed Martin in Greenville.

   He is survived by sisters, Margaret Jamison Nelson of Anderson and Virginia Jamison Dezio of New Jersey; niece, Joy Dezio Kalfus.

Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm Saturday, January 13, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The funeral will be held at 12:00 pm in the mortuary chapel followed by burial at Greenville Memorial Gardens, Piedmont.

Roger Chapman, Sr.

Derrell Roger Chapman, Sr., of Williamston, 82, husband of Brenda Kay Goolsby Chapman, passed away Monday, January 1, 2024.

Born in Pendleton, he was a son of the late Joseph Harrison and Edna Elizabeth Getsinger Chapman. A U.S. Navy veteran, he retired from Carter and Crawley, Inc. 

In addition to his wife he is survived by his sons, Derrell Chapman, Jr. of Plum Branch, Jonathan Chapman of Pelzer, and Michael Chapman of Anderson; brother, Joseph Harrison “Joe” Chapman, Jr. of Brunswick, GA; sister, Lynette Scott of Belton; five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Monday, January 15, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church, with a memorial service to follow at 3:00 p.m. in the church.

Steve Smith

Steve Michael Smith of Seneca, 69, husband of Barbara Jean Isbell Smith, passed away Friday, January 5, 2024, at his home.

   Born in Oconee County, he was a son of the late Jack Margo and Ellen Margaret Swafford Smith. A U.S. Air Force veteran, he was formerly employed with Rock City Mechanical, LLS in Nashville, TN. .

   In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Kellie Miller, Stephanie Mullikin, and Ashley Kisiel; son, James Mullikin; fifteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

No services will be held at this time.

Carol Sims

Pelzer – Carol Annette Wilson Sims, 87, wife of the late Furman Clayton Sims, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2024.

   Born in Easley, she was a daughter of the late Elmer and Dorothy Wilson Stringer. She retired from Sims Appliance and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, GA leader, youth leader and active teacher of various ages in the church.

   She is survived by daughters, Dawn Sims Morgan (Mark A.) and Sherry Sims Coulter (Michael Thomas), all of Greenville; son, Derek C. Sims (Crystal) of Pelzer; siblings, Betty Roach, William Wilson, Kathy Ferguson, and Steve Stringer; grandchildren, Hannah Gottlieb (Kevin), Kennedy Beeson (Alex), Chloe Allen (Matt), Thomas Clayton Coulter, and Walker Bass Sims; and great-grandchildren, Bowen Sims Gottlieb and Sullivan Bea Gottlieb.

   She was predeceased by siblings, Jenny Wilson, Mary Ellen Mull, and Danny Wilson.

   Visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Saturday, January 13, at Gray Mortuary.

   A private graveside service will be held.

   The family would like to express their appreciation to the caregivers that loved Mrs. Carol and her family and allowed her to live out her final year in the home that she loved: Tina Legg, Cindy Rutledge, Shirley Ward, Betsy DeVall, Karen Jones, Becky Mullinax, Vivian Rampey, and Carolyn Hall.

Vonnie Ellison

Vonnie Scott Ellison of Honea Path, 99, wife of the late John Kelly Ellison, passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2023.

   Born in Honea Path, she was a daughter of the late James Adger and Mae Lollis Scott. She retired from Bigelow – Sanford and was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda E. Webb of Belton; sons, Joe Wayne Ellison of Belton and Earl Ellison of Honea Path; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

 Visitation was held January 9 at Cedar Grove Baptist Church, with the funeral following in the church. Entombment was at Greenville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Virginia Hilley

Virginia Alberson “Mama Gen” Hilley of Pelzer, 90, wife of the late Julian Leroy Hilley, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2024.

   Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late Charlie Alberson, Sr. and Beulah Kelly Alberson. She retired from Williamston Manufacturing and Swirl Model Coats. She was a member of Beech Springs Church.

Survivors include her daughters, Vicki Renee Hilley Donald and Cynthia Robin Hilley Robinette, both of Pelzer; son, Michael Roy Hilley of Belton; sister, Mary Chapman of Pelzer; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday, January 18, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at Beech Springs Church, with the funeral to follow at 12:30 p.m. in the church. Burial will be at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery.

Rose Marie Cogan-Klimek 

Rose Marie Cogan-Klimek  passed  away peacefully on Nov.  27, 2023.

 Born Nov. 24, 1942  in Allentown , Pa., she was the widow of the late  Donald Joseph Klimek, and was retired  from Ferguson of Greenville, S.C.

She was  a  faithful member of  Faith Presbyterian Church in  Williamston, where she was a  dedicated volunteer  in the church’s  Food  Bank Ministry.

Rose got great joy from attending the Pelzer Senior Citizens  meetings, and Saturday evening services at Joy Fellowship Church in  Piedmont.

 Memorial services were held    Nov. 21, 2023  at Faith  Presbyterian Church.

 Rose’s church family, fellow  Senior Citizens members, and many friends are invited  to attend the service.
