The following projects are currently underway by the Anderson County Public Works Department:
Animal Shelter
• PAWS was able to save 91% of the animals in their care this week.
• INTAKES:116 (13 owner surrender, 3 owner requested euthanasia, 0 return adoption, 96 from animal control, 7 strays, and 0 transferred in).
• OUTCOMES: 46 animals adopted, 1 died, 11 were euthanized for illness or aggression, 2 were returned to owners, 7 were sent to rescue.
• Currently 87 large dogs, 3 small dogs, 43 puppies, 11 cats and 5
kittens in the facility. There are 112 animals in foster homes in our
community.
• PAWS was able to divert 11 animals and allowed them to stay in their homes, altered 33 community cats and 4 public dogs.
• Currently 86 animals are available for adoption. 63 of those animals
are spayed/neutered 73%
• There are 77 animals being held for court.
• The clinic performed 103 surgeries.
• 7 dogs were treated for heartworms.
• PAWS received $1,446.42.00 in cash donations.
• PAWS food bank provided 445lbs of dog food and 130lbs of cat food for
animals in need.
• Volunteers donated 118 hours of their time for our animals.
• PAWS assisted Anderson County Animal Control with the seizure of 69 poodle type dogs from a puppy mill.

Solid Waste
• Scheduled a Shred Day for March 23rd at the Balloon Launch Field in Anderson from 9am until noon. This event is for Anderson County residents, and we will be working with Shred Away.
• LaBella submitted the Less Than One Acre Application for Stormwater to SCDHEC for the Agnew Road Convenience Center.
• Staff is attending a Lockout/Tag Out training with Van Henson with the Association of Counties.
• Environmental Enforcement worked an Unlawful Dumping of 30 tires on Serena Circle. There was insufficient evidence and Detention Center has been contacted to pick up.
• Delivered 25 recycling bin to Powdersville Middle School for the
expansion of their recycling program to their upstairs classrooms
EE worked an Unlawful Dumping at McFalls Landing in the County dumpster. Ticket was issued to the subject.
• EE worked a Loss of Load on Abbeville Highway. Officer advised subject to clean up.
• EE worked an Unlawful Dumping of 5 bags of trash on CP Hanks Rd. Turned over to Detention Center for cleanup due to insufficient evidence.
• EE worked an Unlawful dumping of road debris and junk on Jule Martin Rd. which is a dirt road. Insufficient evidence.
• EE worked an Unlawful Dumping propane tanks and paint on Sara Simpson Rd. Turned over to the Detention Center for cleanup due to insufficient evidence.
• EE worked an Unlawful dumping on Old Lowndesville Highway. Ticket was issued to one individual. EE is looking for second suspect.
• Loss of load on Cedar Lane. Insufficient evidence but someone cleaned it up.
• EE worked a Loss of Load of a mattress. Insufficient evidence. It was turned over to Roads and Bridges.• EE is patrolling Spearman Circle due to littering issues at the park.
• Staff has been making repairs to the Ambassador building at the King David Convenience Center.
• Environmental Enforcement picked up one bag of litter at Paul’s Landing and McFall’s Landing.
• Staff continues to work to recruit Adopt-A-Spot groups to help clean up the littered roads and areas in our county. We have 87 active Adopt-A Spot groups.
• Did you know: The world produces about 400 million tons of plastic waste a year, but plastic is being recycled at an even lower rate than previously estimated.
Stormwater
• Reviews were conducted of The People’s Bank of Powdersville (1st),Anderson QSR (2nd) and Axial Anderson 85 (2nd).
• A cease and desist notice was issued to a property on Michelin Blvd. for land disturbing activity without a permit.
• A cease and desist notice was issued to River’s Edge Subdivision for failure to install and maintain stormwater controls.
• Conducted the pre-construction meeting and issued approval to Pelzer Point Site Improvements.
• Manager attended a joint meeting between the Upper Savannah River Basin Council and the Lower Savannah-Salkehatchie River Basin Council in N. Augusta. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers presented on the operation of Lakes Hartwell, Russell, and Thurmond and on projects conducted and proposed on the Savannah River.
