MAVIS WINN SMITH, BEATRICE C. CLAYTON, MORRIS SIMPSON, DOROTHY PITTS, MARVIN ROBINSON, LONA EVANS, ALMA JEAN HEADEN, SHERRY MITCHELL

MAVIS WINN SMITH

Mavis Winn Smith, 88, of Greenville, widow of Aubrey A. Smith, died Tuesday, March 29, 2016.

Born in Edgefield County, she was the daughter of the late William W. and Lourie Johnson Winn.

She was a homemaker and a member of Augusta Heights Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughter, Karen Greene of Pelzer; sons, Randy Smtih of Winter Haven, FL and Ricky Smith of Clinton; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Friday at Augusta Heights Baptist Church. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

BEATRICE C. CLAYTON

Beatrice “Bea” Clayton, 93, of Inman, widow of Ira C. Clayton, died Thursday, March 31, 2016.

Born in Spartanburg County to the late Lee and Eva Gosnell Cochrum, she retired from Lyman Printing and was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church.

She is survived by one brother, Cleadus Earl “Pete” Cochran of Piedmont; and sister, Evelyn C. Harvey of Greenville.

Funeral services were held Sunday at Holly Springs Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

MORRIS SIMPSON

Morris Leroy Simpson, 76, of Pelzer, husband of Barbara Sims Vaughan Simpson, died Saturday, April 2, 2016.

He was twice married, first to the late Jeri Alexander Simpson.

Born in Oconee County, he was a son of the late Adger Ellison and Eva Una Alexander Simpson. A Member of Southside Baptist Church, he was retired from American Monorail and Versatile Systems.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Meleisa “Leisa” Simpson Rauton of Six Mile; son, Michael Leroy Simpson of Six Mile; step-daughter, Brenda Marlene Vaughan of Greenville; sister, Mildred Hughes of Seneca; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Monday, April 4, in the chapel of  Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

Burial followed at Courtney Newry Memorial Gardens.

DOROTHY PITTS

Dorothy Iva Spence Pitts, 90, of Piedmont, died Sunday, April 3, 2016.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Tecola Garrett Spence. She was owner and operator of the Skate Place in Piedmont. She was a member at Piedmont Heights Baptist Church.

She is survived by sons, Kyle Pitts and Dale Pitts both of Piedmont; sisters, Betty Phillips of Piedmont, Martha Wilson and Linda Bryant both of Pelzer; two grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters.

Funeral service was held Wednesday, April 6 at Piedmont Heights Baptist Church.

Burial followed at Siloam Baptist Church Cemetery.

MARVIN ROBINSON

The Unity Mortuary of Williamston announces that Celebratory Services for Mr. Marvin Robinson were held Wednesday, April 6 at the Fairfield United Methodist Church in Piedmont. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

LONA EVANS

Lona Mae Hiott Evans, 72, of Belton, wife of Jerome Evans, died Monday, April 4, 2016 at her home.

Born in Williamston, she was daughter of the late William Franklin and Floy Cantrell Hiott and Emma Rogers Hiott.

She retired from Timken.

Surviving in addition to her husband are, daughters, Amanda McGinnis and Jenni Creamer, both of Anderson; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sisters, Ruth Bell of Pelzer, Dell Moore and Marie Clardy, both of Williamston.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bethany Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories.

Memorials may be made to the Cancer  Association of Anderson.

ALMA JEAN HEADEN

Alma Jean Headen, 82, of Greenville, widow of the late Charles Franklin Headen, Sr., died Monday, April 4, 2016.

Born in Piedmont, she was the daughter of the late Lawson and Effie Dove.

She is survived by two sons, Jake Headen and Timmy Headen; two daughters, Ann Rutledge and Kathy Hendrix; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 7 from 11 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. Funeral service will follow in the Northwest Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

SHERRY MITCHELL

Sherry Lynn Whitlock Mitchell, 47, of Fountain Inn, died Sunday, April 3, 2016.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of Mary Yvonne Whitlock of Piedmont and the late William Harry Whitlock, Jr.

She was employed with Wal-Mart in Simpsonville. In addition to her mother, she is survived by children, Chelsea and Michael Sullivan, both of the home; sisters, Shelby Jean Reid of Piedmont, Elaine Reid of Jacksonville, FL.

Funeral service was held Tuesday, April 5 at Emmanuel Full Gospel Tabernacle in Piedmont.
