Benny Taylor

Benny Earl Taylor, of Piedmont, 66, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2024.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late William Gilbert Taylor and Linda Lee Poole Hitt.

He is survived by sons, Nathan Earl Tayor of West Pelzer and Zachary Earl Taylor of Pelzer; sisters, Cathy Elrod Manley of Anderson and Melanie Hitt of Woodruff; several grandchildren.

Burial will be at Pine Lawn Cemetery, Pelzer.

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 pm Sunday, April 14, at Emmanuel Full Gospel Tabernacle, Piedmont. The memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm in the church.

Gary Parnell

Gary Robert Parnell, of Piedmont, 62, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2024.

   Born in Greenville, he was the son of Lois Elise Smith Parnell and the late Kenneth Robert Parnell.  He was formerly employed with Anderson County Solid Waste, and a member of Wren Baptist Church.

   He is survived by sons, Gary Parnell of Piedmont, Lindsey Parnell of Piedmont, and Nathan Parnell of Mauldin; sister, Renee Brown of Piedmont; sister-in-law, Crystal Lachen of Piedmont; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 10, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, April 11, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Wanda Fuller

Wanda Elisa Fuller, of Pelzer, 69, passed away Friday, April 5, 2024.

   Born in Pelzer, she was the daughter of the late Clarence William and Sudie Genez Pack Fuller.  She retired from the Greenville County EMS after 42 years of service as a dispatcher.

   She is survived by sister, Deborah McCoy of Pelzer; brothers, Lee Fuller of Fountain. Inn, and Marty Fuller of Williamston.   

No service is planned at this time.

Brenda Umbaugh

Brenda “Bren” Joyce Chandler Umbaugh, of Pelzer, 81, wife of Richard “Dick” Lee Umbaugh, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2024, at her home.

    Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Theodore Jackson and Frances Irene Hoover Chandler. She retired from Michelin and was a member of Augusta Road United Methodist Church. 

In addition to her husband, she is survived by children, Randy Gene Umbaugh of Middleburg, FL, Kelly Susan North of Taylors, and Rodney Scott “Dutch” Umbaugh of North Charleston; siblings, Larry Chandler of Pelzer, Alice Kay Litzsinger of Atlanta, GA, Judy Cockrum of Simpsonville, and Donald Chandler of San Diego, CA; 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 11:00 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. Thursday, April 11, at Augusta Road United Methodist Church with the funeral service following at 12:00 p.m. at the church.

Burial will follow at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Augusta Road United Methodist Church, 8324 Augusta Road, Pelzer, SC 29669.

Michal Aimee Edmund 

Michal Aimee Edmund, age 53, of Alma Georgia passed away Saturday, April 6,2024 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. 

 Aimee was a graduate of the Bacon County Class of 1988 and a member of New Vision Church. 

 Aimee was the daughter of Freddy F. Lockaby, Jr. and Michal Floyd Lockaby of Alma; mother to Zachary Foster (Brooke), Jackson Foster (Malori) and Peyton Foster all of Alma; grandmother to Blakelyn, Saylor and Kash Foster; special friend to Anissa Hutto and Traci Martin.

 A memorial service will be held Friday, April 12, 2024 at 4:00 PM at New Vision Church with Rev. Pet Hayes and Rev. Bobby Bentley officiating. 

 The Class of 1988 will serve as honorary escorts.

 Crosby Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

Mary Wilkes

Mary Ann Simpson Wilkes, of Pelzer, 62, wife of Jessie William Wilkes, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2024.

   Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter to the late George Washington Simpson and Annie Iretha Owens and a granddaughter to the late UC and Mattie Lee Owens.

   In addition to her husband she is survived by sister, Pocahontas McDonald of Pelzer.

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 10, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The service will follow at 2:00 pm in the mortuary chapel. Burial will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Dianne Lackey

Alma Dianne Ragsdale Lackey, of Williamston, 85, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2024, at her home.

   Born in Williamston, she was a daughter of the late Louis Dan and Mary Francis Patterson Ragsdale. She retired from BellSouth and was a member of Williamston First Baptist Church. 

Survivors include daughter, Mary Janet Ford of Williamston; sisters, Harriet Ballard of Rock Hill and Nancy Hoffman of Gastonia, NC; and brothers, Donny “Don” Ragsdale of La Grange, KY and Gene Ragsdale of Liberty.

The family received friends April 6, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

Samuel Helmuth

Samuel Lee Helmuth, of Pelzer, 27, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2024.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of John David and Brenda Lee McClelland Helmuth of Pelzer. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and was formerly employed as a deputy with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by fiancé, Kayla Perkins of Pelzer; siblings, Rebecca Mardis of Pelzer, Rachel Helmuth of John’s Island, John Aaron Helmuth, Matthew Helmuth, and Sarah Helmuth, all of Pelzer; and grandmother, Mary Helmuth.

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 13, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary, with the funeral to follow at 2:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel. Burial will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens, with military honors.

Gail Davis

Brenda Gail Evans Davis, of Piedmont, 78, widow of Charles “Charlie” David Davis, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2024, at her home.

Born in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late Harley William and Ruth Allen Evans. She was formerly employed with Grove Medical, Powdersville and was a charter member of The Carpenter’s Chapel, Simpsonville. She attended the Pelzer Church of God.

Survivors include daughter, Beth Finley of Piedmont; two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 10, at 12:00 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery in Piedmont.

Peggy Mason

Piedmont – Peggy Jean Brady Crowe Mason, 88, wife of the late Carlton Mason, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2024.

She was twice married, first to the late Lloyd Crowe.

Born in Williamston, she was a daughter of the late Charles Gaddus and Rallen Exie Leslie Brady. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her son, Tony Crowe (Gail) of Pelzer; daughters, Rhonda Smith (Michael) of Piedmont and Hope Spencer of Hendersonville, NC; sister, Elaine Shirley of Williamston; grandchildren, Dusty Sheppard (Brandi), Ryan Crowe (Adrienne), Eric Crowe (Katherine), Audrey Brylan Doohen, Cashaul Elliott, Haivan Middleton (Payne), and Stephanie Smith Breve; and fifteen great-grandchildren, with one on the way.

She was predeceased by her siblings, Catherine King, Thelma Browning, Doris Childers, Charles, Donald, Daniel, and Wayne Brady.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 10, from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at Gray Mortuary. The service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the mortuary chapel, with burial at White Plains Baptist Church cemetery.
