JEFFREY SCOT DALTON

Jeffery Scot Dalton, 32, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2017.

Born in Pinehurst, NC, a son of Harry Lee and Tammy Burton Dalton, Mr. Dalton was a 2004 graduate of Palmetto High School where he was very active in sports, earning eleven all region plaques in soccer, track and cross country where he and his team won the State Championship. Jeff was a foreman with Dalton Turf & Irrigation, and was a member of NewSpring Church. He was loved by all and will be dearly missed.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are two brothers, Jack Douglas Dalton (Caroline) of Williamston, and Bradley Jay Dalton (Amanda) of Simpsonville; and his grandfathers, Jack Dalton of Williamston and Joe Burton of Belton.

Memorial services were Monday, December 11, 2017 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown Easley.

The family is at the home.

“VANGIE” OLIVER

Evangeline “Vangie” Mae Knox Oliver, 91, of Piedmont, widow of James Robert Oliver, died Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at her home.

Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Morris Frank, Sr. and Gracie Lee Waldrlop Knox.

She was a homemaker and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving are children, Darlene Peden of Piedmont, Danny Oliver of Pelzer, Dianne Young of Piedmont and Donna Thomas of Piedmont; sister, Connie Jones; brother, Waymon Knox; seven grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Friday, December 8 at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

DOUG BROOKS

James Douglas Brooks, Jr., 39, of Easley, died Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Pickens.

Born in Easley, he was the husband of Rebecca Irwin Brooks and the son of Jo Lynn Whitlock Shockley and her husband, Ronald of Liberty and James Douglas Brooks Sr. and his wife, Darlene, also of Liberty.

He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are a daughter, Madison Brooks of the home; son, Xander Brooks of the home; two step-sisters, Michelle Shockley of Williamston and Amy Wilson of Clemson; two step-brothers, Marshall Crawford of Anderson and Daniel Shockley of Williamston; and grandparents, Jo Ann and Donald Smith of Liberty and Joe Whitlock of Williamston.

A memorial service was held Saturday, December 9 in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel.

WILLIAM FREDDIE MAYSON

William Freddie Mayson, 92, of Greenville, husband of Mildred Brown Mayson, died Thursday, December 7, 2017.

Born in Edgefield, he was a son of the late Press and Estelle McNeill Mayson.

He was a member of Salem Methodist Church. He retired as owner of Carolina Barber Shop and Air Flight Manufacturing Company.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran  of World War II.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Dale Mayson of Easley; daughter, Judy Huffman of Powdersville; two grandsons; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

A graveside service was held Monday, December 11 at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

BILLY ROBINSON

Billy Joe Robinson, 44, of Piedmont, died Friday, December 8, 2017.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of Cindy Robinson Davis. He was employed with Piedmont Tire.

In addition to his mother and step-father, Michael Davis of Pelzer, he is survived by girlfriend, Michelle Davis of the home; sisters, Tonya Kelly of Williamston and Mandy Norris of Piedmont.

Visitation was held Tuesday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

JOHN E. JONES

John E. Jones, 90, of Pelzer, husband of Myrtle Messer Jones, died Wednesday, December 6, 2017.

Born in Taylors, he was a son of the late Eugene and Marie Lamb Jones.

He was a U.S. Army veteran during World War II and retired from the U.S. Air Force after serving in Korea and Vietnam. He was a member of Bessie Road Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife include two sons, Michael E. Jones of Moore and Michael K. Jones of Pelzer; one daughter, Linda Styles of Tigerville; one stepson, William E. Jones of Greenville; 15 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Saturday, December 9 at Bessie Road Baptist Church. Burial followed in Cannon Memorial Park.

HELEN ROSS

PIEDMONT—Helen Williams Ross, 88, wife of the late James Richard Ross, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2017.

Born in Williamston, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Tillman and Pearl Jennings Williams. She was formerly employed with K-Mart in Greenville and was a member of White Plains Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children, Linda Coleman (Gary) of Williamston, Steve Ross (Beverly) of Easley, Sherry Tate (Bob) of Piedmont; sister, Bobbie Wiles of Moyock Island, NC; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, Richard Ross; four brothers; and one sister.

Visitation was held Monday, December 11 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary. The funeral followed at 2:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel. Entombment took place in the mausoleum of Greenville Memorial Gardens.

JOE ‘MR. WONDERFUL’ ODOM

Joe David “Mr. Wonderful” Odom, 74, of Pelzer, husband of Ann Brazeal Osom,  died Thursday, December 7, 2017 at his home.

Born in Piedmont, he was a son of the late William Straub and Ethel Alice Lindsey Odom. He retired from Hickory Point, attended West Pelzer Baptist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, Air Fore and Army Reserves.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, David Odom of West Pelzer; brothers, Jimmy Odom of Easley, Troy Odom of Williamston, and Bill Odom of Madison, GA.

A memorial service was held Monday, Dec. 11 in the Chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

DOT DAVIS

Doris “Dot” Lee Lollis Davis, 93, formerly of Pelzer, died Saturday, December 9, 2017.

She was a daughter of the late Ramsey and Arrah Lee Lollis.

She was predeceased by her husband, Harold Davis.

Surviving are her daughter, Karen Shaw of Greenville; son, Kenneth H. Davis; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Wednesday, December 13 at Greenville Memorial Gardens..

STAN CROUT

GREER – Jon Stanley Crout, 70, passed away on December 11, 2017 at his home.

A native of Greenville County, son of the late Carthel Crout, Sr. and Edna Ford Crout, he served 40 years in fire service, 15 years as Fire Chief of Lake Cunningham Fire Department and was the past president of South Carolina State Association of fire chiefs. Mr. Crout was a very active member in the music and recreation ministries of Double Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Ellen Imogene “Jean” Tate Crout of the home; one daughter, Kim Balose (John) of Cumming, GA; one step-daughter, Tammy Thompson (Todd) of Travelers Rest; one brother, Carthel Crout, Jr., of Williamston; and three grandchildren, Bryson Thompson, Ellie Balose and Ansley Balose.

Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Double Springs Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Keith Mincey and Rev. Eddie Anders. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Hal Kornprobst, Johnny Morgan, Matt Hill, Keith Pearson, John Balose and Jimmy Pittman.

Honorary escort the Lake Cunningham Fire Department and the S.C. State Association of Fire Chiefs.

Visitation was held 12:00 – 1:45 p.m. Wednesday at Double Springs Baptist Church.

MARTHA VASILON

Martha Jean Peyton Vasilon, 70, of Piedmont, wife of Kenneth Craver Vasilon, died Monday, December 11, 2017.

Born in St. Charles, MO, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Mildred Barcklage Peyton. She was a retired Registered Nurse and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Powdersville.

Additional survivors include children, Melanie and Jason Vasilon of Piedmont, Jarrett Vasilon of Myrtle Beach; sister Barbara Taylor; brothers, Dennis, David, Michael, and Kevin Peyton; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, December 14, at 1:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Community Church, 8300 Old Greenville Highway, Easley, SC 29642.

EARL D. MYERS

Earl Donald Myers, 88, of Anderson, died Monday, December 11, 2017 at his home.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late Roy and Ellen Garrison Myers.

He was a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and retired from Wometco Food Service.

He was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Frances Adams Myers; are two sons, Brad Myers of Anderson and Don Myers of Greenville; three grandchildren; one brother, Charles Myers of Powdersville; and two sisters, Rachel Ledford of Powdersville and Carolyn Whitted of Greenville.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 14 at New Prospect Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m.
