West Pelzer annexes school property

In a brief meeting, West Pelzer Town council approved an ordinance to annex a parcel of land at the request of Anderson School District One. The property includes 19.10 acres which are adjacent to West Pelzer Elementary School and bordered by Palmetto Road and West Stewart streets. Council approved the annexation with a bare quorum of Council members Vickie Farmer, Johnny Rogers and Mayor Blake Sanders present. Councilman Donnie Jeanes came in just after the vote was taken. Mayor Sanders said the annexation will allow West Pelzer officers to be more helpful should there be an accident on Palmetto Road at Hardwood Road or Stewart Street. Sanders said Big Creek Water supplies water to the school and West Pelzer provides sewer, which will not change.

In her report, Town Clerk Paula Payton said the West Pelzer Municipal Center will be closed Thursday Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29 for Thanksgiving. Fifteen work orders were completed in October.
The Christmas Parade will be at 6 p.m. on Saturday, December 7. The parade will begin at the West Pelzer Fire Department and proceed to Lebby Street in Pelzer. It will be the first time the parade has been held at night.
Police Chief Alexis Eliopoulos reported crime stats for October in which there were 19 reports, 7 arrests, 9 traffic related, 2 warrants. Total number of charges for those arrested was fourteen. There were 85 tickets written with 47 warnings.
Chief Eliopoulos reported the police department has received the new patrol vehicle and it is now functional on the road. The police department also recently ordered new ballistic vests which are expected to be in by December.
