During their Dec. 12 meeting, West Pelzer Town Council approved second and final reading on changes to the business license ordinance and held a reception for outgoing Mayor Blake Sanders.
Sanders announced early in the year that he did not intend to run for another term as mayor. Councilman Jim Riddle was elected to fill the mayor’s seat and will officially be sworn in in January as the town’s new mayor.
Sanders recently announced that he intends to run for the SC House District 9 seat that will be coming open in 2024. Filing for the seat will be held in March of next year.
Current SC House District 9 Representative Anne Thayer announced recently that she will not be seeking another term serving residents of Anderson County at the State level in Columbia.
“I will continue to represent you in the State House until November 2024,” Thayer said. “Putting the needs and aspirations of my constituents and our district will continue to be my priority.”
Sanders will be running on his strong, conservative record and accomplishments as Mayor of West Pelzer which include significantly reducing the tax burden for West Pelzer families and small business recruitment.
Sanders said he will run a campaign centered on common sense conservative principles.
The only item on the agenda for the meeting was second reading to amend and update the business license ordinance of West Pelzer to bring it into compliance with state law. The updates were unanimously approved.
