Barbara Simpson

Barbara Ann Sims Vaughan Simpson of Pelzer, 78, wife of the late Morris Leroy Simpson, passed away Monday, June 6, 2022.

She was twice married, first to the late Bruce Edward Vaughan.

Born in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late William Elvis and Willie Louise Campbell Sims. She retired from Kemet Corporation and was a member of Southside Baptist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Marlene Vaughan of Taylors; step-daughter, Meleisa “Leisa” Rauton of Six Mile; step-son, Michael Leroy Simpson of Six Mile; brothers, Donnie Sims of Pelzer and Dean Sims of Greenville; three grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 10, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary. The funeral will follow at 12:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel, with burial at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church, P.O. Box 412, Piedmont, SC 29673.

The families are at their respective homes.

Linda Kay

Linda Lee McAlister Kay of Williamston, 79, wife of the late Charles Marion Kay, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2022.

Born in Williamston, she was a daughter of the late Herman Carl and Kathleen Virginia Guthrie McAlister. She was a member of Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith and she was a homemaker. 

She is survived by her son, Chad Kay of Williamston; daughter, Cindy Jackson of Pelzer; sister, Elizabeth Epps of Williamston; brother, Lanny McAlister of Cleveland, SC; and two grandchildren.

A graveside service was held June 6 at Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Rainey Hospice House at 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

Beverly Traynham

Beverly Ophelia Blackstone Traynham of Piedmont, 68, wife of James Larry Traynham, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2022.

Born in Piedmont, she was a daughter of the late James Clyde Blackstone, Sr. and Earline Wilson Clardy Blackstone. She was employed with MTC Federal Credit Union and was a member of Piedmont First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children, Ryan Cape, Courtney Cape, and Brandon Cape all of Piedmont, and Jay Traynham of Charleston; sisters, Mary Earle Blackstone and Kitty Blackstone of Piedmont; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation was held June 6 at Gray Mortuary. The funeral followed in the mortuary chapel, with burial at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Rellon Jackson

Rellon Dean Jackson of Pelzer, 69, husband of Teresa Dianne Center Jackson, passed away Monday, June 6, 2022.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of Bessie Lois Thomason Jackson of Pelzer and the late Paul Jethro Jackson. He retired from Wilson Trucking.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Adrianne Sheriff of Belton; brother, Paul Jackson, Jr. of Easley; sisters, Darlene Oliver of Landrum and Pamela Shackleford of Pelzer; and one grandchild.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 10, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel.

Buster Scott

Marvin Eugene “Buster” Scott, II, 73,  of Piedmont, passed away Sunday, June  5, 2022.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Marvin Eugene Scott, I and Lola Bates Scott. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Fluor Corporation.

He is survived by companion, Linda Morris of the home; sons; Marvin Mark Scott of the home and Lonnie Ray Scott of Easley; daughter, Buffie Lynn Scott of Greenville; step-children, Shelley Rogers of Greer and Benji Morton of Greenville; brothers, Harold Lee Scott, Larry Scott and Kenneth Scott, all of Greenville; eleven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 pm Wednesday, June 8 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The service will follow at 6:00 pm in the mortuary chapel.

John Warner

John Joseph Warner of Piedmont, 67, husband of Deborah “Debbie” Sue Welch Warner, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2022.

 Born in San Bernardino, CA, he was a son of the late Francis Xavier and Barbara Mae Parsons Warner. He was a U.S. Army 82nd Airborne veteran and retired from TruColor.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Amber Davis of the home and Leila Warner of Greenville; sons, John Warner, Jr. of Laurens County and Jerry Warner of the home; sisters, Cynthia Sylvia and Geraldine Goodwin, both of CA; brothers, Francis Xavier Warner of NC and Timothy, Ricky Louis and Tony Warner, all of CA; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be planned by the family at a later date.

Janice Poole

Janice Opal Evans Teague Poole of Pelzer, 73, widow of Michael Poole, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at her home.

   She was twice married, first to the late Thomas David Teague.

Born in Tigerville, she was the daughter of the late BC and Frances Ann Manus Evans.  She was formerly employed with Steel Heddle and retired from Michelin.

 Survivors include sons, Thomas Derek Teague of Virginia Beach, VA and Brian B. Teague of Pelzer; brother, Dennis Evans of Greenville; and three grandchildren.

A graveside service was held June 7 at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Lib Eaton

Pelzer – Elizabeth “Lib” Ann Burgess Eaton, 83, wife of the late Joe Marvin Eaton, passed away Monday, June 6, 2022.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence Reed Burgess and Eva Gertrude Roberson Burgess. A member of New Hope Baptist Church, she retired from Kendall Mill and also worked as a cosmetologist.

She is survived by daughter, Karen Joann Eaton of Pelzer; son, Ronnie Eaton of Pelzer; sister, Eva Sue Campbell of Pelzer; four grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by siblings, Willie Mae Cantrell, Nora Jean Rogers, Grady Burgess, Ray Burgess and Faye Rhodes.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 9, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, with the service to follow at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Hope Baptist Church or to the church Prayer Garden, 108 New Hope Road, Pelzer, SC 29669.
