Laura Phillips, Stanley B. Brewer, Sr., Jerry M. Snipes, Sr., Alice Burgess, Gene Coyle, Alvin Bilbray

Alvin Bilbray

Alvin Ned Bilbray, Jr., of Pelzer, 84, husband of the late Mary Annette Eastman Bilbray, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2022.

Born in Orlando, FL, he was a son of the late Alvin Ned Bilbray, Sr. and Myrtle Orchutt Bilbray. He retired as a residential carpenter and was a member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, in Greenville.

   Survivors include a son, William Daniel Bilbray of the home; daughter, Marie Bilbray Alexander of Weirsdale, FL; sister, Beverly Powell of Orlando, FL; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

 A memorial service was held June 25 at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church.

Gene Coyle

Clemson – Gene Anderson Coyle, 82, husband of Anne Elizabeth Wooldridge Coyle, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2022.

   Born in Ninety-Six, he was a son of the late William Anderson and Marcella Ruth Hurt Coyle.  He retired from the U.S. Air Force and was the owner of Technical Sales and Services Company. He was also a member of the Williamston Presbyterian Church.

 In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Michael Coyle (Charity) of Terre Haute, Indiana, Michele Coyle Davis (Robbie) of Taylors, Melanie Moon (Tyler) of Seneca, and Mark Coyle (Christy) of Seneca; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

 He was predeceased by brothers, Don and Bobby Coyle.

The family wwas received friends 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with the funeral following at 2:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel. Burial was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.

Alice Burgess 

Alice Burgess,75, of Piedmont, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2022.

 Born in Greenville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Dorothy Jones Burgess.

 Alice was a member of Piedmont Church of God. She was a true southern lady to the core, known to have a “firecracker” spirit and a loving heart. She had a generous heart; loving to take care of others and help when needed. Alice took great joy in watching her favorite programs, NCIS and anything on the Hallmark Channel. She also enjoyed doting and loving on her grand-dogs and cat. For Alice, her biggest loves were her Lord, her church and her family. She will be forever missed but her memory and legacy of love will carry on through each life she touched.

 She is survived by daughter, Allison Giambrone-Wilson (Michael); sisters, Kathy McCarter, JoAnn Carter (Leon) and Norma Jean Simmons; brothers, Jerry Burgess (Rhonda) and Sammy Burgess; Serenity Faith Burgess, who was like a granddaughter; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. 

 In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Christine Sutherland and Alma Hembree; and brothers, Lawrence Richard Burgess, Donald Ray Burgess, Berry Lee Burgess, Andrew Washington “Bub” Burgess, James Clayton Burgess, and Larry Burgess.

 A visitation was held Saturday, June 25, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:15 p.m. at Piedmont Church of God, with a funeral service following at 1:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary. Burial was held in Rose Hill Cemetery in Piedmont.

Jerry M. Snipes, Sr.

Jerry Milton Snipes, Sr., of Piedmont, 81, passed away Monday, June 27, 2022.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late Joseph Milton Snipes and Kathleen Culbertson Medlock. He was a self-made entrepreneur and a veteran of the U.S.  Navy and Air Force.

Survivors include son, Jerry Milton “Butch” Snipes, Jr. of Belton; daughters, Lori Snipes of Starr and Sherra Lynn Snipes of Pelzer; sisters, Kathy Snipes Kirby and Martha Snipes Anglin, both of Greenville; half -brother, Ricky Snipes; grandchildren, Austin Sissney, Jami Michelle Snipes, and Audrianna Snipes; and great-grandchildren, Jean Marie Snipes, K.J. French, Nate French, and Nick French.

The family will receive friends 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 30, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with the funeral service following at 2:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel.  Burial will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens.    Condolences: www.graymortuary.com

Stanley B. Brewer, Sr.

Stanley Brent Brewer, Sr., of LaFrance, 59, passed away June 18 at his home.

Born in Anderson, he was a son of Crawford Lamar Brewer of Pendleton and Sharon Faye Simmons Brewer of Anderson. He was formerly employed with Westinghouse and he was a U.S. Marine veteran.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by sons, Stanley Brent Brewer, Jr. of Asheville, NC and Matt Brewer of Anderson; brothers, Marty Brewer of Honea Path and Wesley Brewer of LaFrance; sister, Renea Chastain  of Anderson; and three grandchildren, Sophia.

 A private service will be held.

Laura Phillips

Pelzer – Annie Laura Hammonds Phillips, 94, passed away Sunday, June 26, 2022.

   Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Haskell Hammonds and Pawnee Holiday Hammonds. She retired from JP Stevens in Piedmont and was a member of Andersonville Baptist Church.

She is survived by son, Michael Joe Phillips (Vickie); grandchildren, Ashley Cothran (Mitch), and Austin Phillips (Ashley); and great-grandchildren, Bryce and Cameron Cothran and Korbin Phillips.

She was predeceased by her brother, Ralph Hammonds.

 The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 29, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary, with the service to follow at 2:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel.   Entombment with be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.
