Anderson County Department of Public Works reported the following projects underway across Anderson County:

Animal Shelter

Started a public Anderson County PAWS Rescue page on Facebook to help save less adoptable animals (nervous/sick/pregnant/heartworm positive) https://www.facebook.com/AndersonCountyPAWSRescue

Took in 63 dogs and 71 cats : 134 total

Sent 44 animals to rescue, 25 adopted, 11 returned to owner and 13 euthanized (sick/aggressive/owner requested) 93 total

Down to 285 total animals.  Only one dog in each run.

Purchased 16 microchip scanners for all animal control officers to use in the field to reunite pets with owners and keep them out of the shelter.

Development Standards

UPCOMING MEETINGS FOR NOVEMBER:

Citizens Advisory Committee Meeting for District 6 will be held on Monday, November 7, 2016 at 6:30PM.

Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church requesting a Special Exception to construct a new sanctuary located on 101 Pisgah Road, Easley. The Committee’s recommendation will be submitted to the Land Use Board of Zoning Appeals.

Land Use Board of Zoning Appeals will hear the following variances at their November 10, 2016 Meeting.

§  Application request to replace a demolished home with a single family home located at 225 Park Row, Piedmont.

§  Application request to replace a mobile home with a single family home located at 520 Hall Road, Easley.

Planning Commission Meeting has been moved to Monday November 7th due to the election. The Commission will hear a residential subdivision –Woodland Hills, consisting of six (6) lots located off of Cooper Road, Powdersville.

SITE PLAN REVIEW:

§  Crescent High School Improvements.

§  Phillips Recovery located at Cherokee Road near Lufkin Road, Pelzer.

LAND USE PERMITS ISSUED:

§  O’Reilly Automotive located at 3610 Highway 153, Powdersville.

§  Kentucky Fried Chicken Expansion located at 3100 Highway 153, Piedmont.

§  Verizon Wireless Expansion located at 1324 Fire Tower Road.

GRADING PERMITS ISSUED:

§  Greystone Subdivision

SUBDIVISIONS:

§  Ellison Plantation Phase II, Bond under review.

§  Midway Ridge.

§  River Ridge Phase III.

§  Hanna Crossings.

Roads & Bridges

Reviewed preliminary plat for Woodland Hills Subdivision on Cooper Road.

Completed the final inspection on Midway Ridge and River Ridge Subdivisions.

Stormwater

Investigated the dredging of a section of Big Beaverdam Creek near Cherokee and Hembree Roads. The activity was reported to the US Army Corps of Engineers and the SCDHEC Mining Section. SCDHEC will be investigating further to ensure the proper permit is obtained.

Reviews were conducted for Cannon Bottom Access Road & Meter Site, Open Arms, and Piedmont Natural Gas – Line 349 Replacement.

Approvals issued and pre-cons held for New Horizon – Piercetown Electrical Substation, New Storage Buildings on Whitehall Road, and Cook Dental Office.

Wastewater

ROW crew completed cutting in the Iva area this week and will start in the Powdersville area next.

Performed 9 residential sewer tap inspections this week: 1 in Brookstone Meadows, 2 in Rivendell, 1 in Covered Bridge, 2 in Melrose Place, 2 in Benton Park and 1 in Pheasant Ridge.

Observed sewer installation in phase 1 of the New Rivermill subdivision.

Grading and clearing has started for the Pennington Farms subdivision off McGee Road. 8 inch gravity sewer will be installed there and will discharge into the Linwa pump station.
