Two women connected to a homicide investigation are now behind bars.
Anderson County Sheriff’s Detectives have charged Angel Bellis, 26, and Cassidy Cheek, 21, with Accessory after the Fact of a Murder in connection with the death of Phillip Marshal Hughey in August.
Days after the Sheriff’s Office reported Hughey’s disappearance from Williamston, Jared Tierce, 22, and Jacob Barber, 22 were charged with murder. According to reports, Tierce put a ratchet strap around Hughey’s neck while Barber stabbed him multiple times. The suspects then worked together to dispose of the body, which was found wrapped in rug, down an embankment along Cox Lake Road.
The ACSO Criminal Investigations Division uncovered information that Cheek destroyed evidence by burning the victim’s clothes. Bellis saw Hughey’s body following the crime and did not report the horrific incident to law enforcement.
“This has been an ongoing effort by our detectives to gather evidence and close out a case that has impacted this victim’s family,” said Anderson County Public Information Officer Shale Remien.
As of Tuesday, Cheek and Bellis were inside Anderson County Detention Center and bond has been denied.
