A Simpsonville man died from injuries he sustained after his motorcycle was struck by a deer and the motorcyclist was then struck by a vehicle. According to Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore, Troy James McConnell, 35, died due to multiple traumatic injuries secondary to blunt force trauma after being treated at the scene by EMS personnel and then airlifted to Prisma Health Trauma Center. According to the Coroner’s office, the investigation indicates that McConnell was riding a motorcycle traveling north on Highway 247 and was struck by a deer, causing him to fall on the highway. The victim was then struck by another vehicle while he was in the roadway attempting to get off the highway. This is the second traffic fatality in a week period involving motorcycles. The Cheddar Fire Department, Anderson County QRV, Medshore EMS, and the South Carolina Highway Patrol responded. The accident occurred on Highway 247 near Belton around 6:21 pm. on Thursday. The victim succumbed to injuries at 4:05 pm on Saturday. The incident remains under investigation by the Anderson County Office of the Coroner and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
