Brad Locklair

WesLee Bradford “Brad” Locklair of Piedmont, 43, passed away Friday, February 16, 2024.

Born in Charleston, he was a son of John Lynwood Locklair, Jr. and Patricia Ann Bilbray Locklair of Easley. He was the owner of WBLTEC and a member of Pathway Church in Piedmont. 

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his children, WesLee “Bryce” Locklair, “Sydni” Blaine Locklair, and Kirstin “Briggs” Locklair, all of the home; brother, Dr. Matthew Ryan Locklair of Atlantic Beach, FL; paternal grandmother, Amy Kay Locklair of Summerville; and companion, Tonya Moore of Piedmont.

Visitation will be held Friday, February 23, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Mt. Airy Baptist Church. The service will follow at 4:00 p.m. at the church.

Ben Miller

Robert Benjamin “Ben” Miller of Piedmont, 42, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

Born in Greenville County, he was the son of Robert Dale “Bobby” and Valerie Anita Henderson Miller of Piedmont. He was a member of Waycross Baptist Church. 

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Julius Russell Miller of Piedmont.

A celebration of life service was held February 18 at Waycross Baptist Church with visitation following the service.

Johnny Smith

Johnny Dendy Smith of Williamston, 80, passed away Friday, February 16, 2024.

Born in Williamston, he was a son of the late Louie Earl and Edith Irene Holliday Smith. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.

He is survived by a brother, James Harold Smith of Williamston.

A graveside service was held February 19 at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.

G. Robert Campbell

G. Robert Campbell, Chief Ret., 75, of Roanoke, VA, and formerly of Edison, NJ, passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2024. He was born on April 14, 1948, in Newark, NJ, the son of George Abraham Campbell and Kathleen Coogan Campbell.

Chief Campbell was appointed to the Edison (New Jersey) Division of Fire as a Firefighter in 1971. He rose through the ranks and was appointed Chief of the department in January of 1999. He retired in 2006 and then served as an instructor at the Middlesex County Fire Academy in Sayreville, NJ (2006 – 2007).

Chief Campbell was a member of the first graduating class of Edison’s J.P. Stevens High School in 1965. He attended Union Junior College before completing his B.A. in Political Science at Clemson University in 1970. In 1979 he completed the semester-long Harvard Trade Union Program at the Harvard School of Business, representing the IAFF. He earned his M.A. in Labor Studies from Rutgers University in 1983.

He was active in the Oconee County (SC) chapter of Habitat for Humanity, serving on the Family Selection Committee and volunteering in the resale store. He was a liaison for the chief of the Clemson University Fire Department. He took up blacksmithing as a hobby and served as a volunteer blacksmith at the Hagood Village Historic Village in Pickens County, SC.

Surviving to cherish his memory is his wife of 52 years, Donna Jean Campbell; daughter, Erin Virginia Leftwich (Wayne); granddaughters, Alice Leftwich and Clara Leftwich, of Roanoke, VA; sister, Patricia Campbell McAvoy; nephews, Jonathan McAvoy and Brendan McAvoy, of Pt. Pleasant Beach, NJ; sister-in-law, Claudia Beaty (David); nephew, Kevin (Casey) Beaty; and niece, Sally Beaty Wallace, of Douglasville, GA.

Elaine Evans

Piedmont – Elaine Eugenia Smith Evans, 82, wife of Marshall Kenneth “Bub” Evans, Sr., passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2024.

   Born in Piedmont, she was a daughter of the late Harvey Lee and Ellen L. Brown Smith. Mrs. Evans retired from Bigelow and attended Beaverdam Baptist Church. She loved being a wife and mother and quilting.

   In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Marty Evans (Jo) of Pelzer; siblings, Mary Ellen Rardon of Piedmont, Jimmy Smith (Maxine) of Rock Hill, and Maxine Thomas (Ray) of Williamston; numerous nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces.

   She was predeceased by her siblings, Evelyn Smith, Kent Smith, Dorothy Foxx, Barbara Ann Maroff, and Terry Lee Smith; and special cousins, Jerry Brown and Becky Johnson.

   Visitation was held Monday, February 19, from 12:00 to 1:15 p.m. at Beaverdam Baptist Church. The funeral followed at 1:30 p.m., with burial at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Ronnie Lark

Piedmont – Ronald Alton “Ronnie” Lark, 77, husband of Katie Lee McClain Lark, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2024.

   Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Robert Alton and Maddie Alice Thacker Lark. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Air Force for eight years and in the U.S. Army for four years. He retired from J.P. Stevens, Estes Plant and was a member of Piedmont Church of God. Ronnie loved to play golf, fish, and deer hunt.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Steve Lark (Jennifer) of Travelers Rest, Kevin Lark (Ashley) of Seneca, Brian Lark (Sarah) of Washington, D.C., and Chris Seymore of Piedmont; daughter, Melissa Lawson (Billy) of Simpsonville; sister, Bobbie Sue Nimmons; and brother, Ernest Lark (Cathy), both of Piedmont; twelve grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by brothers, Jimmy and Joe Lark.

Visitation was held Tuesday, February 20, from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. at Gray Mortuary. The funeral followed at 6:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel.

   Burial will be Wednesday, February 21, at 10:00 a.m. at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery.
