Billy Langley

William “Billy” Claude Langley, of Pelzer, 79, husband of Judy Graydon Langley, passed away peacefully Monday, April 1, 2024, at his home.

Born in Newberry, he was a son of the late William Samuel and Ruby Link Langley. He attended Gardner Webb University and was the former owner of The 8 O’clock Superette in Greenville. Billy was the owner of Windy Hill Farm in Pelzer where he raised Black Angus and Boer Goats and loved to be after retirement. He attended First Presbyterian Church, Greenville and was also a member of Masonic Lodge No. 31. His warm smile and unwavering kindness touched the lives of everyone who crossed his path. Billy was a pillar of compassion, a listener, friend, and beacon of light for many.

   In addition to his wife of 56 years, he is survived by son, William S. “Jay” Langley, II (fiancé, Julie) of Pelzer; and one granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 3:00 to 4:00 pm Thursday, April 4, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. A memorial service will follow at 4:00 pm in the mortuary chapel.

Molly Evans

Mary Molly Hammett Evans of Honea Path, 90, wife of the late Alf Haynie Evans, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2024.

   Formerly of Pelzer, she was born in Honea Path to the late Willie Dexter and Cleopatra Argyll Rogers “Cleo” Hammett. She retired both from Mount Vernon Mills and Bi-Lo. She  was member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Pelzer and attended Chiquola Baptist Church in Honea Path. 

Survivors include her sons, Jimmy Evans of West Pelzer and Robert Hammett of Pelzer; daughter, Carol Evans Tucker of Honea Path; five grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Tuesday, April 2 at Gray Mortuary.

The funeral will be Wednesday, April 3, at 2:00 p.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories.

Michelle Miller

Michelle Denise Miller, of Pelzer, 51, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at her home.

   Michelle was born on February 20, 1973 in Miami, FL, to Cheryl Denise Morrison Miller of the home, and the late John Calvin Miller, Sr. After graduating from J.L. Mann High School she worked at the Disposo Plant in Fountain Inn and at Embassy Suites.

 In addition to her mother, she is survived by her step-in father, Johnny Kuykendall; brother, John Miller, Jr. of Greenville; and sister, Stephanie Askins of Greenwood.

Catherine “Cass” Kefford

Catherine Margaret “Cass” Alloway Kefford, of Williamston, 84, passed away Friday, March 29, 2024.

Born in Jersey City, NJ, she was a daughter of the late Josiah Edward and Catherine Alexandria Starke Alloway.  She retired from Publix.

She is survived by daughter, Dorothy Sherrer of Belton; sister, Irene Grasmick of Williamston; four grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Doris Payne

Doris Roach Payne, of Pelzer, 86, wife of Elbert Jackson “Jack” Payne, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2024.

   Born in Oconee County, she was a daughter of the late Duffie A. and Savannah Smith Roach. She retired from Kemet and was a member of New Life Independent Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Darlene Crosby of Columbia; sister, Maybell Watkins of Westminster; brothers, Jimmy Roach of Greenville and Vernon Roach of Lavonia, GA; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

 Visitation was March 30 at Gray Mortuary.  

The funeral was April 1 in the mortuary chapel, with burial following at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Jimmy Cox

Belton – James Merideith “Jimmy” Cox, Jr., 75, husband of Kay Smith Cox, passed away Friday, March 29, 2024.

   Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late James Merideith Cox, Sr. and Helen Inez Campbell Cox. Jimmy received a bachelor’s degree from Wofford College and a Juris Doctor Degree from USC School of Law. He was an attorney in Williamston for 40 plus years, including being a founding partner of Cox and Cole Law Firm.  Jimmy served on the Anderson County Council for many years, including serving as chairman when the Anderson Civic Center and the Anderson County Courthouse were built. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Williamston and a faithful Gamecocks fan.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Maxi Cox Henry and husband, William of Taylors; grandchildren, Jessie Alewine, Rachel Eades, Garry Eades, and Seth Eades; adopted son, Didier Burbano; The “Meathouse Gang” (his lifelong friends), especially his “brothers” Terry Cox and Roger Simpson.

   The family would like to thank all of the many friends, family, and community members for their love and support.

He was predeceased by a brother, David Gregory Cox.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 4 from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary. The service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel, with burial at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
