JIMMY STYLES, JIMMY SMITH, EDDIE MORGAN, MELVIN OWENS, HILDA HIGH, LENORA BROWN HARDY, DAVID T. CORDELL

JIMMY STYLES

BELTON – Jimmy Auston Styles, 86, husband of Charlotte Marie Straub Nelson Styles, passed away Friday, August 3, 2018.

Born in Marion, NC, he was a son of the late Anna Lee Styles Laney.  A U.S. Air Force veteran, he was formerly employed by Edgecomb Metals, Crime Stopper Alarms, and retired from Orchard View Meats.  A member of Rockvale Baptist Church, he was a life member of VFW Post 9273, and a former member of South Greenville Moose Lodge #749.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Stanley Styles (Beth) of Westminster, Sharon Meeks of Williamston, Kevin Nelson (Yevette) of Del Rio, TX, and Carla Martin (Josh) of Belton; brothers, Bobby Bertolo (Josie) of California, Chuck Laney (Christine), Barte Laney (Sandra), and sister, Betty Harvey (Wally) all of Marion NC; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Wednesday, August 8, from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. at Rockvale Baptist Church, Piedmont. The funeral followed at 3:00 at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rockvale Baptist Church, 652 Old Grove Road, Piedmont, SC 29673, building fund or food pantry.

JIMMY SMITH

James Randolph “Jimmy” Smith, Jr., 74, of Hendersonville, NC, husband of Jackie McMinn Smith, died Tuesday, July 31, 2018.

He was twice married, first to the late Judy Reid Smith.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late James Randolph Smith, Sr. and Vera Wood Smith. He retired from General Electric and attended several Church of God congregations.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Jimmy Smith of Pelzer, Russell Smith of Pelzer; step-daughters, Sonya Penland of Hendersonville, Tonya Plemmons of Largo, FL; brother, Gary Smith; sisters, Gail Ennis, Lisa Wood; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

A graveside service was held August 4 in the cemetery of Bethel Church of God of Abrahamic Faith.

EDDIE MORGAN

Edsel William “Eddie” Morgan, 95, of West Pelzer, husband of the late Grace Marguarite McCombs Morgan, died Saturday, August 4, 2018.

Born in West Pelzer, he was the son of the late Will and Lille Smith Morgan. A U.S. Army veteran, he retired as the owner/operator of Morgan’s Upholstery, and was a member of West Pelzer Baptist Church.

Survivors include, his son, William “Bill” Morgan of Easley; two grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Wednesday, August 8  at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

MELVIN OWENS

James Melvin Owens, 83, of Anderson, husband of the late Sue Baldwin Sullivan, died Wednesday, August 1, 2018  at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Williamston, he was the son of the late Jim Bob and Bessie Odell Owens.

He was retired from Duke Energy and was a member of Whitefield Baptist Church.

Surviving are his daughter, Leann Rumsey of Anderson; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and brothers, Ed, Billy, Marvin, and Gain Owens.

A memorial service was held Saturday at Sullivan-King Mortuary.

HILDA HIGH

Hilda Parris High, of Piedmont, wife of the late Fred Hugh, died Saturday, August 4, 2018.

Born in Gaffney, she was a daughter of the late Guy and Joyce Nodine Parris.

She was a member of Reedy Fork Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Heather Leckie; one grandson; and two sisters, Martha Thornton and Sally Blanton.

Funeral service was held Wednesday, August 8 at Reedy Fork Baptist Church.

LENORA BROWN HARDY

Lenora Brown Hardy, 76, of Starr, died Monday, August 6, 2018 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Iva, she was a daughter of the late Lealon Elzie Brown, Jr. and the late Etta Mae Craft Brown.

She was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Temple and had worked for B.F. Goodrich.

She is survived by her sons, Bobby C. Cooper of Starr and Gary T. Cooper, Jr. of Anderson; brothers, Bennie Brown of Pendleton; sister, Linda Brown Kisker of Piedmont; and one granddaughter.

Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, August 9 at The McDougald Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, August 10 at Refuge Baptist Church Cemetery.

DAVID T. CORDELL

David Thomas Cordell, 47, of Piedmont, died Sunday, August 5, 2018.

Born in Greenville, he was the owner of Kustom Detailz.

He was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving are his mother, Libby Martin Webster and her husband Doug of Piedmont; father, James Thomas Cordell and his wife Terrie of Easley; two sons, Austin David Cordell and Brady Thomas Cordell, of the home; brother, Michael Todd Cordell of Greenville; and grandparents Hoyt and Marjorie Martin of Greenville.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, August 9 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home, Powdersville Road.
