MICHAEL HOOD

PELZER – Michael Christopher Hood, 40, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2019.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of Charles Edward and Debra Lyn Norris Hood of the home. Michael is also survived by two brothers, David and Tim Hood of Pelzer. He was a member of West Pelzer Baptist Church.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to both the Pelzer Rescue Squad for their hard work and dedication, and to the staff of St. Francis Hospital Downtown for the love and care they provided for Michael.

Visitation was Tuesday, April 16, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at West Pelzer Baptist Church. The service followed at 11:00, with burial at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

SHIRLEY POWELL

Pelzer – Shirley Ann Henderson Powell, 84, wife of the late Thomas Bruce Powell, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2019.

Born in Liberty, she was a daughter of the late John Paul and Annie Alma Alzora Warren Henderson. She retired from Fabri-Kal and was a member of Life Journey Church.

She is survived by her children, Danette Hanks (Richard) of Belton, Tom Powell (Carol) of Rock Hill, and Mark Powell (Donna) of Williamston; sisters, Jean Smith of Columbia, Connie Grice of Greer; brothers, Gary Henderson of Pelzer, Mike Henderson of Piedmont; seven grandchildren, Daniel Hanks, Stacy Powell, Chrissy Motes, Melissa Berry, Anna Hanks Hewitt, Dee Donnahoo, and Stephanie Strickland; and twelve great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, Greg Powell; sister, Molly King Alexander; and brothers, Charles and Junior Henderson.

Visitation was held Monday, April 15 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Gray Mortuary.

The service was Tuesday, April 16, at 2:00 p.m. at Life Journey Church, followed by burial at Pine Lawn Cemetery.

ERNEST ‘ERNIE’ EUGENE FOWLER

HONEA PATH – Ernest “Ernie” Eugene Fowler, 58, passed away March 26, 2019, in Greenville.

Born in Charleston on Nov. 1, 1960, he was the son of the late Clyde Donald Fowler, Sr. formerly of Piedmont, and Ila Mae Martin Fowler, formerly of Williamston.

He was a 1980 Belton-Honea Path High School graduate. He had been employed by Stevens Aviation, Pleasant’s Hardware and Belton Industries. He also owned and operated an industrial cleaning service.

He is survived by a son, Brantley Trey Fowler of Belton; sisters, Barbara Haselden (Donnie) of Honea Path, Julie Fowler Watson (Rick) of Myrtle Beach, Tara Fowler Smith (Smitty) of Pelzer and Cheryl Fowler Williamson of Danville, VA.; brothers, Bill Weathers (Denise) of Taylors, Don “Donnie” Fowler, Jr. of Greenville, and Robert “Bob” Fowler of Danville; step-mother, Frances Burton Fowler of Belton; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family held a celebration of life at the residence of his sister on March 29.

BENNIE CARMON BROWN

Bennie Carmon Brown, 79, of Pendleton, died Sunday, April 14, 2019, at AnMed Health.

He was born in Lavonia, Georgia, the son of the late Leland E. and Etta Mae Craft Brown. He was a retired maintenance supervisor with Michelin in Sandy Springs. He owned B & M Karting.

Surviving are sons, Bennie Wayne Brown of Pendleton and Tim Brown of Central; daughter, Vanessa Langston of Norris; sister, Linda Kisker of Piedmont; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Betty Craft Brown.

Graveside services will be 4 PM, Thursday at Refuge Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice Unit of one’s choice.

DEBORAH DENISE GRANT

Deborah Denise Grant, 62,  wife of Tommy Grant of Piedmont, died on Tuesday, April 9, 2019.

She was born in Greenville to the late James Bridges and Betty Bridges Knight.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Michael McDowell; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Kathy Bosinger and Janice Baker.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 13 in the Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel.

BOBBY LONG

Robert Glen “Bobby” Long, 67, of Piedmont, died Tuesday, April 9, 2019.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late William Gordon Long, Jr. and Annie Laura Norris Long. A member of Mountain Springs Baptist Church, he was self-employed in residential and commercial construction.

Survivors include his children, Stacey Long Merritt  and Jennifer Long Moore, both of Piedmont, Tori Long Bennett and Ethan Robert Long both of Greenville; brother, Randy Long of Piedmont; sisters, Sandi Long Wall and Becki Sanders, both of Piedmont; and five grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Saturday, April 13 at Mountain Springs Baptist Church, Piedmont.

MARCELLE SPEARMAN

Evelyn Marcelle Parker Spearman, 88, of Piedmont, wife of the late James Lewis “Doc” Spearman, died Wednesday, April 10, 2019.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Dee Monroe and Minnie Anne Cope Parker. She retired from Union Carbide and was of the Methodist faith.

She is survived by daughter, Kathy Streetman of Greer; sons, Thomas Dee Spearman of Piedmont, Kenneth Lewis “Jr.” Spearman of Piedmont and Ricky Eugene Spearman of Williamston; sister, Bertie Williams of Mt. Pleasant; many  grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Monday, April 15, at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery.

GLORIA SMITH

Gloria Jean Clark Smith, 73, of Williamston, wife of the late Terry Dale Smith, died Friday, April 12, 2019.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Guy Clark and Ruby Higginbotham Clark Johnson. She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include her sons, Sean Smith and Kevin Smith, both of Williamston; sister, Carolyn Owens of Anderson; brother Bobby Clark of Anderson; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation as held Tuesday, April 16 at Gray Mortuary.

The family is at the home of her son, Kevin Smith.
