W.H. Dean 

Williamston – W.H. Dean, 92, formerly of Williamston, SC, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2020 at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home. 

Born February 20, 1928 in Pelzer, SC, he was the son of the late Walker Hampton Dean and Annie Russell Dean. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Margaret Duncan Dean, daughters Joy Dean Knight and Anne Dean Callaham, five grandchildren and six  great-grandchildren. 

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Calvin, Almon, and Clinton Dean. 

The family held a private funeral service.

Barney Moody 

Barney Moody, 91 of Williamston, SC passed away on July 29, 2020. 

He was the son of the late Charlie Moody and Florence Alexander-Moody. He is survived by his wife, Emily Ritz-Moody of Belton, SC; Daughter, Martha Moody-Center of Piedmont, SC; Grandchildren, Renee Carson, Aston (Lisa) Center, Rachael Buckson, and Christine Wilson; Ten great-grandchildren; Three great-great-grandchildren; Four sisters, Connie Mackey and Alice Durham of Williamston, SC, Martha “Midge” Reid, and Shelby Jean Hayes of Pelzer, SC. 

A private memorial will be held for the family.

Jo Ann Thomason

Jo Ann Glasby Thomason, of Pelzer, 86, wife of the late James Edwin “Shirt” Thomason, Sr. for sixty years, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2020.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late Joe Aaron and Olivia Love Smith Glasby. She retired from Gerber Childrenswear, in Pelzer.

Survivors include a son, James “Jimmy” Thomason, Jr. of Williamston; daughters, Lee Kral of Taylors, and Bennie Hyder of Pelzer; nine grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son Rusty Thomason; brother, “Pee Wee” Glasby; and sister, Shelby Glasby.

A memorial service was held on August 5, at the chapel at Gray Mortuary. The family will greet friends following the service.

David Thurmond

David Baldwin Thurmond, 58, of Piedmont, passed away Friday, July 31, 2020.

Born in Athens, GA, he was the son of Guy Julius Thurmond, III and Elizabeth Janet Bearden Thurmond.

He was employed as a Forestry Technician with Thurmond and Associates, Inc., a member of Siloam Baptist Church, and a U.S. Navy veteran.  He actively worked with Fair Play Camp School in Westminster, and was a Boy Scout. He belonged to the Anderson County Forestry Association and the SC Forestry Association.

 In addition to his parents of Piedmont, he is survived by sisters, Janice Thurmond Higdon of Franklin, TN and Julie Thurmond Offutt of Athens, TN; uncle, Richard Baldwin (Pat) Thurmond of Virginia Beach, VA; aunt, Mary Bearden Eaton of Madison, GA; uncle, Jim Bearden (Carrie) of Alpharetta, GA; fourteen nieces and nephews; and six great-nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on August 3  at Gray Mortuary. A memorial service followed in the mortuary chapel.

Sharolyn Inman

Anderson – Sharolyn Louise Ware Inman, 77, passed away peacefully at home, on Sunday, August 2, 2020.

Born in Barrackville, WV, she was a daughter of the late Denzil Ray and Madalyn DeVault Ware. She retired from Anderson School District One, after thirty-four years of teaching, having taught at Wren Primary and Waccamaw Elementary School, in Horry County. She was a loving mother and grandmother and dedicated to teaching.

Survivors include daughters, Michelle Dutton (Kenneth) of Anderson and Nanette Wisham (Terry) of Williamston; son, Mark Inman (Amanda) of Easley; brother, Gary Ware of Tallahassee, FL; sister, Jean Yoder of Huntsville, AL; seven grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 6, from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary, with the service to follow at 2:00 in the mortuary chapel. Burial will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rainey Hospice House, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

Ruth B Atkinson 

Ruth B Atkinson, 74, of Piedmont, SC passed away on Monday, July 27, 2020. She was the daughter of the late Bill Bailey and Leila Mahoney. 

Ruth is survived by one daughter, Tasha Marshall (Ricky Marshall) six grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. 

Ruth was a beautiful, loving mother who enjoyed spending time with her family and loved life in general. She also enjoyed watching movies and listening to music. 

Family will gather for a service at a later date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made toward cremation expenses to Tasha Marshall. 

Roy McCuen

James Roy McCuen, of Williamston, 92, husband of the late Elizabeth Hopkins McCuen, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2020.

Born in Greenville County, he was the son of the late James Wesley and Bessie Woodson McCuen. A veteran of the U.S. Army and National Guard, he served in the Korean War. He retired from Cryovac in Simpsonville and was a member of Whitefield Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughter, Nancy Vaughn of Williamston; son, Alan McCuen of Pelzer; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was  held August 2, at at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

 The family would like to thank everyone at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home for all the loving kindness and care shown to him.

Isaac “Clutch” Ware 

Isaac “Clutch” Ware, 62, of Piedmont, SC went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 27, 2020. He was the son of the late Elvin & Mary (Shelton) Ware. 

He is survived by his significant other; Mary Ann Smith; two sons, Josh and Cory Ware; siblings, Frank, Mike, Rita, Mary, Phyllis, David, Junior; grandchildren, Skyler, Madison, River, Tyler, Grace, Savanah, Lexi, Alyssa, Alana, Cayden, Carliegh, Caiya; great grandchildren, Heaven; special friends, Rodney James, JD Kelly, Mike Chandler, Bill and Pete Peden. 

Isaac is preceded in death by sister, Donna; special friends, Rock & Petey Harris.

He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his faith in the Lord. 

The family had a Memorial Service on August 1, 2020 at Palmetto Mortuary from 3:00pm-5:00pm. 

James Nelson Edwards 

 James Nelson Edwards, of Williamston, age 88, of 16 Randall Street Williamston passed July 23. 

Graveside service was held July 30 at Welfare Baptist Church Cemetery.Body was on view July 29 at the Funeral Home. The family is at the home. 

Holloway’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ted Nichols

Williamston – Ted Kirston Nichols, 84, husband of Patricia Ann Phillips Nichols, passed away Monday, August 3, 2020.

   Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Crate and Elizabeth McCue Nichols.  He was retired from Bigelow-Sanford and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

   In addition to his wife, he is survived by sister, Elaine Rogers (Jimmy) of Anderson; brother, Fred Nichols of Williamston; special niece, Angie Ellison (Jimmy) of Belton; and special nephew, Kim Hawkins (Toni) of Columbia.

He was predeceased by siblings, Earby Nichols (Anniebell), Harold Nichols (Burt), Robert Nichols, Wendell Nichols and Ola Addington.

Mr. Nichols will lie in state Thursday, August 6, from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 7, at Forest lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.

Doris Ellison

Williamston – Doris Durant Watkins Ellison, 90, widow of Louie Harold Ellison, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 31, 2020.

Born in Williamston, she was a daughter of the late Rufus and Dolly Crawford Watkins.  She was retired from Cushman Plant and later Winn Dixie in Williamston. She was a longtime member of Beaverdam Baptist Church and sang in the choir. Doris loved her family, and she loved God. We will miss her, but she will always be in our hearts.

Survivors include son Gary Ellison (Kathey) of Williamston; grandsons, Joe and Patrick (Emily) Ellison of Pelzer; great-grandson, SSGT Jerimiah Layne Ellison of Dover, Delaware; great-granddaughter, Karah Ellison of Pelzer; brothers, Tom Watkins (Betsy) of Greenwood and Kip Watkins (Connie) of Laurens; and sisters, Carolyn Hood of Williamston, Mary Anne Bunton (Ray) of Williamston, Jenny Kingman (Richard) of Piedmont and Lynda Popwell (Gary) of Kingsport, TN.

She was predeceased by sons, Stephen Harold Ellison and Benjamin Dale Ellison.

 Mrs. Ellison will lie in state Sunday, August 2, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

A graveside service was held Monday, August 3, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at Beaverdam Baptist Church cemetery.

Those attending the graveside service were asked to wear face coverings and observe social distancing.

Pam Smith

Easley – Pamela Jean “Pam” Smith, 64, formerly of Piedmont, passed away on Monday August 3, 2020.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Louie Cleveland and Mary Roper Smith, and was a member of Mountain Springs Baptist Church.

She is survived by a sister, Gayle Payne (Jim) of Easley; niece and nephew, Tammy and Hal Payne (Anna), all of Easley; her great-nieces whom she adored, Sara, Megan, and Lea Payne, of Easley; aunt, Thelma Clardy Smith of Greenville; and a number of cousins whom she loved.

Ms. Smith will lie in state Wednesday, August 5, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, August 6, at 12:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel. A private entombment will follow.
