Johnny Alexander

Johnny Ray Alexander of Pelzer, 81, husband of the late Marlene King Alexander, passed away Monday, January 3, 2022.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late J.D. and Flossie Elizabeth Brown Alexander. He retired from Armstrong in Mauldin, was a member of Eastview Baptist Church, and a U.S. Army veteran.

He is survived by son, Scott Alexander of Shelby, NC; daughter, Tammy Alexander of Greenville; step-daughters, Robin Starnes of Piedmont, Melissa Posey of Piedmont and Tammy Boyd of Spartanburg; brother, Ricky West of Greenville; three grandsons and one great-granddaughter.

 A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, January 7, at Greenville Memorial Garden with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eastview Baptist Church, 120 Eastview Rd., Pelzer, SC 29669.

Due to Covid-19, it is suggested that masks be worn, and social distancing observed.

James Leonard

Belton – James Gaston Leonard, 77, husband of Linda Ann Cooper Leonard, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2022.

Born in Saluda, NC, he was a son of the late Gaston Leonard and Margaret Juanita Black Leonard. He retired as a truck driver for Bi-Lo and was a member of Set Free Church in Powdersville. James loved fishing, racing, playing the guitar, and crab legs.

 In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Robin Kay; sons, Rodney, Tim, and twin sons, Ronnie and Donnie Leonard; fourteen grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday, January 6, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. in the chapel at Gray Mortuary, with the funeral to follow at 1:00 p.m.

Due to Covid-19, it is suggested that masks be worn, and social distancing observed.

Elaine Rogers

Janice Elaine Nichols Rogers of Anderson, 75, wife of James Calvin “Jimmy” Rogers, passed away Saturday, January 1, 2022.

 Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Crate and Elizabeth McCue Nichols. She retired from Anderson School District One, where she worked in the Palmetto Middle School Cafeteria. She was a member of Mount Bethel Baptist Church in Belton.

 In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Angie Ellison of Belton, Kim Crawford of Williamston, and Brian Rogers of Anderson; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held January 4 at Mount Bethel Baptist Church, funeral followed. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Jimmy Harrison

James Rayford “Jimmy” “Wolf” Harrison, III, 63, of Belton, husband of Elizabeth Marie Ellis “Beth” Harrison, passed away Sunday, December 26, 2021.

Born in Abbeville, he was a son of the late James Rayford Harrison, Jr. and Mary Frances Newton Harrison. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Jacob Harrison of Anderson, Jessica Lollis of Anderson, and Nicole Kiser of Pelzer; sisters, Sandra Austin of Williamston and Lisa Dalrymple of Honea Path; brother, John R. Harrison of Williamston; seven grandchildren.

   Visitation was held December 31, at Gray Mortuary, with a memorial service following in the mortuary chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association – Upstate SC Chapter, 4124 Clemson Boulevard, Suite L, Anderson, SC 29621.

Louise Tollison

Piedmont – Virginia Louise Ross Tollison, 68, wife of the late Marvin Lee Tollison, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2022.

Born in Williamston, she was a daughter of the late Johnny Jones Ross, Sr. and Dorothy Louise Phillips Ross. She retired from The Ritz Restaurant in Pelzer.

Survivors include her children, Johnny Tollison (Cindy) of Iva, Nancy Chandler (Tim) of Belton, Janet Barbre (Breezy) of Piedmont, Tina Ellison (Richard) of Belton, and Sherri McMillan of Six Mile; siblings, Charlene Biggs of Belton, Darlene Bell of Pelzer, and Anthony Ross of Pelzer; fifteen grandchildren, Bradley, Keri, Alex, Mitchell, Jennifer, Kimberly, Ayden, Raylee, Antonio, Carlos, Ricky, Crystal, Steven, Alexis, and Shawna; and thirty-seven great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a brother, Johnny Jones Ross, Jr. and a grandson, Timothy Chastain.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, January 8, at 1:00 p.m. at Greenville Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends following the service at Oak Pointe Church, 8649 Augusta Road, #9346, Pelzer.

Sam Cothran

Sammy Curtis “Sam” Cothran of Donalds, 79, husband of Velma Jean Arrowood Cothran, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2021.

Born in Possum Kingdom, he was a son of the late Haskell Andrew and Pauline Isabel Gambrell Cothran. A U.S. Air Force veteran, he retired from B.P. Amoco in the Donaldson Center, Greenville and was a member of Beech Springs Church.

   He is survived by daughters, Tammy Kaye Cothran Bowling of Belton and Paula Lynn Cothran LeCroy of Donalds; sons, James Michael Coleman of Easley and Tony L. Coleman of Liberty; siblings, Mary Jean Cothran Coker of Raleigh, NC, Joe Earl Cothran of Belton, Linda Faye Cothran Bridges of Honea Path; brothers, Donald Neal Cothran of Fountain Inn and Richard Steven Cothran of Piedmont; ten grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Respects were on Sunday, January 2 and Monday, January 3 at Gray Mortuary. A graveside service followed at Beech Springs Church Cemetery.

Barbara Carol Jordan Hutto 

Barbara Carol Jordan Hutto, age 80, passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2021 surrounded by her family.

Born January 18, 1941 in Anderson, SC, she was the daughter of the late Hiram “Newton” Jordan, Jr. and Cordelia “Dee” Phillips Jordan. Mrs. Hutto grew up in Pelzer, SC and worked at B.C. Moore’s Department Store, where she met her husband when he came in to purchase a suit. While Greg was a baby, she sold AVON and then worked as a substitute teacher at Rosewood Elementary School in Rock Hill, SC where she went on to obtain her license in Real Estate.

Her husband’s job was transferred to Boston, Massachusetts and after 4 1/2 years, he took a job in Newberry, SC and Mrs. Hutto worked for Turner’s Jewelers.

Surviving are her two children, Gregory “Greg” Lane Hutto of Conway and Deanne Hutto Bishop (Dean) of Conway; four grandchildren, Joshua “Josh” Dean Bishop (Mary) of Conway, James “Jamey” Hamilton Bishop (Shelley) of Conway, Jordan Lane Hutto of Gloucester, VA, and Grace Marie Hutto of Conway; one great grandchild, Jasslyn Vendeze Bishop of Conway; and a sister, Brenda Gail Jordan Chapman (Timothy) of Sieper, Louisiana.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, December 31, 2021 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel with Minister Timmy Tyner officiating. Entombment follow sat Hillcrest Cemetery.

The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Russell Winiecki

Russell Gordon Winiecki of Williamston, 86, husband of the late Dolly Harper Winiecki, passed away Sunday, December 26, 2021.

Born in Portage, WI, he was a son of the late John and Wilma M. Haberman Winiecki. A U.S. Air Force veteran, he retired from McLean Trucking.

He is survived by his children, Fred Steven, Donna Ray, James Ray, and Michael Anthony Winiecki, all of Williamston; sister, Darlene Winiecki of Elizabethtown, KY; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation was held December 30 at Gray Mortuary.

   A graveside service was held December 31 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Patricia Potter

Patricia Ann Faulconer Hills Potter of Fountain Inn, 74, wife of the late Lawrence Eugene Potter, passed away Saturday, January 1, 2022.

   She was twice married, first to the late Glenn Richard Hills.

Born in Quincy, IL, she was a daughter of the late Lyman Faulconer and Pauline Blanche Stalions Faulconer Jackson. She retired as a dispatcher for Litton Ambulance Service in Mount Vernon, IL.

Survivors include her children, Wesley Richard Hills of Roswell, GA, Tressie Downes of Fountain Inn, and Christopher Hills of Simpsonville; stepson, Kurt Potter of Springfield, IL; stepmother, Kay Faulconer of Quincy, IL; brother, Bruce Faulconer of Quincy, IL; sisters, Pam Melvin of Warsaw, IL and  Judith Faulconer of Quincy, IL; ten grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Saturday, January 8, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. A private graveside service will follow at 3:00 p.m.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.

William Adger Stone, Jr.

William “Bill” Adger Stone, Jr., of Piedmont, 75, husband of Sallie Patrick Stone, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2022.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late William Adger Stone, Sr. and Ellis Aileen Traynham Stone.  He retired from Shealy Electrical Wholesalers after 47 years of service and was also an auctioneer with Gene Patrick Auctions. He was a member of Washington Baptist Church and a U.S. Navy veteran. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Patrick Stone of Pelzer; sister, Carolyn Stone Neely of Belton; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 5, at Washington Baptist Church with the funeral service following at 2:00 p.m. at the church.  Burial will be at Cedar Shoals Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Washington Baptist Church, 208 Washington Church Rd., Pelzer, SC 29669.
