Major Calvin Rodney Waters, Sr., USMC Ret., Josh Turner, Joyce Dawson

Joyce Dawson

Shirrell Joyce Rainey Dawson of Pelzer, 76, wife of the late Jackie Lee Dawson, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2023.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Clarence Lee and Flois Mallie Sargent Rainey. She retired from Milliken and was a member of New Life Baptist Church in Ware Place.

She is survived by her sons, William Caudle of Duncan and Greg Caudle of North Charleston; sisters, Jean Taylor and Joan Black; brother, Jack Rainey, all of Williamston; and five grandchildren. 

 A graveside service was held June 20 at Greenville Memorial Gardens. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Life Baptist Church, 215 Evans Road, Pelzer, SC 29669.

Josh Turner

Joshua Grady “Josh” Turner of Belton, 31, husband of Alexus Sharlyn Artherton Turner, passed away Saturday, June 10, 2023.

Born in Anderson, he was a son of Rev. William Grady Turner, Jr., and Sherry Renee Ramsey Turner.  He was formerly employed with Lazer Construction and a member of Living Truth Nondenominational Church in Belton.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his children, Riggins Joshua Turner of Manchester, TN, Meilani Skylynn Turner of Belton, and Johnny Paul Turner of Belton; brother, Jessie Blake Turner of Belton; sisters, Heidi Michelle Smith of Belton, and Mandy Louise Hocum of Loveland, CO; and grandparents, Rev. William Grady Turner, Sr. and Joyce Louise Duncan Turner of Williamston.

Visitation was held Thursday, June 15 at Gray Mortuary, with the service in the mortuary chapel.  Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Major Calvin Rodney Waters, Sr., USMC Ret.

Williamston – Major Calvin Rodney Waters, Sr., USMC Ret., 89, husband of Georgia Anne Davis Waters, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2023.

 Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Charlie Lewis and Annie Jeannette Kelly Waters. A graduate of Forrest College, he retired as a Major from the U.S. Marine Corps after twenty-four and a half years of service. He also retired from Bigelow-Sanford and was the owner and operator of Waters Tax Service. Rodney was a charter member of the Pelzer Heritage Committee, former Secretary of the Williamston Spring Water Festival, and was named Kentucky Colonel. An IPTAY member for forty-eight years, he was also a member of the Pelzer Masonic Lodge, and Williamston First Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Calvin R. Waters, Jr. (Nancy) of Easley; daughters, Susan Waters McAbee (Joe) of Piedmont and Beth Waters Watkins of Williamston; and grandchildren, Calvin Rodney Waters, III, K.C. Watkins, Chuck Waters, James Watkins, Charlie Watkins, and Bailee McAbee.

He was predeceased by a sister, Judy Manley and brother, Marvin “Red” Waters.

Visitation was held Tuesday, June 20, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary. The funeral followed at 3:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel, with entombment at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Williamston First Baptist Church, P.O. 477, Williamston, SC 29697.
