Jean Snipes

Rebecca Jean Wells Snipes of Pelzer, 84, passed away Monday, July 3, 2023.

Born in Graceville, FL, she was the daughter of the late L.T. and Rebecca Louise Watford Wells. She was a retired teacher from Woodmont High School.

She is survived by son, Jerry Milton “Butch” Snipes, Jr. of Belton; daughters, Lori Snipes of Starr and Sherra Lynn Snipes of Pelzer; three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation was  Monday, July 10, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The service followed in the mortuary chapel. Burial was at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Joyce Pepper

Christine Joyce Turner Pepper of Piedmont, 82, wife of James Weldon Pepper, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2023.

Born in Stuart, VA, she was a daughter of the late B.F. and Bertha Lee McDaniel Turner. She retired from Sitton Buick and attended Trinity Baptist Church in Williamston.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters, Paige Wilson of Simpsonville and Pam Pepper of the home; sister, Emogene Hooper of Piedmont and Esther Woodlee of Midlothian, VA; two grandsons.

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 15, from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. at Gray Mortuary, with the funeral to follow at 12:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel.

A private burial will be held at a later date.

The family would like to In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels of Greenville, 15 Oregon Street, Greenville, SC 29605.

Ann Rousseau

Margaret “Ann” Marian Johnson Rousseau of Piedmont, 65, wife of the late Brian Howard Rousseau, Sr., passed away Sunday, July 2, 2023.

Born in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late Julius Ray and Jennie Lou Long Johnson. She retired from B&C Carpet & Tile and was a member of Piedmont First Baptist Church.

She is survived by a brother, William “Bill” Johnson of Piedmont.

 No services are planned at this time.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Charles Sargent

Charles Edward Sargent of Pelzer, 82, husband of the late Willie Lucille Crawford “Luci” Sargent, passed away Sunday, July 2, 2023.

   Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late James Edward and Frances Cleo Baldwin Sargent. He retired from Marshall & Williams Company and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. 

   He is survived by sons, Link Sargent of Piedmont, Scott Sargent of Williamston, and Eric Sargent of Honea Path; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held July 5 at Gray Mortuary, with the funeral  following in the mortuary chapel.

Burial was July 6 at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Jimmie Babb, Sr.

Jimmie Louis Babb, Sr., husband of the late Louise Alma Eskew Babb, of Pelzer, passed away Friday, June 30, 2023.

He was twice married, first to the late Joan W. Babb.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Raymond Lee Babb and Katherine Ethel Rhodes Babb Caldwell. A U.S. Army veteran, he retired from Advanced Fire Protection in Travelers Rest, and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Pelzer.

He is survived by his children, Jeffrey Lynn Babb and Katherine Hope Babb Mackey, both of Pelzer; brother, Francis Babb of Piedmont; sister, Joann Caldwell Phillips of Pelzer; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation was July 6 at Tabernacle Baptist Church. The funeral followed in the church, with burial at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church, P.O. Box 268, Pelzer, SC 29669.

Betty Tripp

Betty Louise Sherman Tripp of Piedmont, 86, widow of Grady Easton Tripp, passed away Friday, July 7, 2023.

   She was born on March 16, 1937, in Piedmont to Charlie R. and Pauline George Sherman.  She was a member of Mt. Airy Baptist.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan T. Campbell of Piedmont.  

Visitation was July 12 at Gray Mortuary. The funeral followed in the mortuary chapel, with burial at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Valerie Montgomery

Valerie Selma Dean Montgomery of Pelzer, 81, wife of the late Jerry Wayne Montgomery, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2023.

Born in Toccoa, GA, she was a daughter of the late Emory Willis and Nellie Mae Pless Dean. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by four daughters, Shelia Ross of Fountain Inn, Anita Seibert of the home, Linda Avery of GA, and Debbie Terrell of Toccoa, GA and son, Greg Montgomery of Anderson; seventeen grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

 The family will hold a private memorial service.

James Walker “J.W.” Sims of Greenville, 90, husband of the late Dolores Ann Miller Sims, passed away Monday, July 3, 2023.

Born in Fountain Inn, he was a son of the late Joseph Lifty and Annabelle Tumblin Sims. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and Army Reserves. He was a member of Daventon Baptist Church.

   He is survived by children, Jamie Sims of Anderson, Tanya Greenwood of Simpsonville, and Beckie Hunt of Rowlett, TX; brother, Pelham Sims of Fountain Inn; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Saturday, July 8, at Daventon Baptist Church Cemetery.
