Jeanette McAlister, Gilbert McAlister, Sr., Betty Hall, Richard Teal, Heath Anthony, Petty Officer Gordon Nichols, USN, Ret., Kim Sims

Kim Sims

Kimberly “Kim” Dawn Sherman Sims of Williamston, 62, wife of the late Douglas Sims, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2023.

   Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Jeff Dayton Sherman, Jr. and Margaret Louise Cox Sherman. She worked in home healthcare.

She is survived by step-daughter, Trisha Puck of AR; and sister, Diane Gaddy of Chester.

 The family will have a private memorial service at a later date.

Petty Officer Gordon Nichols, USN, Ret.

Gordon Raeford “Papaw” Nichols of Pelzer, 95, husband of the late Betty Sue Cavendish Nichols, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2023.

Born in Trammel, VA, he was a son of the late George and Mary Julina Martin Nichols. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having retired after twenty-three years and served in WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.

He is survived by son, Tim Nichols of Pelzer; sister, Karen Castle of TN; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, January 3, at 2:00 p.m. at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery, with military honors.

Heath Anthony

Heath Wallace Anthony of Pelzer, 42, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2023.

   Born in Easley, he was the son of Vivian Elaine Cantrell Anthony of Pendleton and the late Wallace Terry Anthony. A U.S. Army veteran, he served in Iraq and Afghanistan. He was employed with Duke Energy – Oconee Nuclear Station and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Kailey Caston, a freshman at the College of Charleston, and sister, Heather Sue Garrison of Piedmont.

Visitation will be held Friday, December 22, from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church. The funeral will follow at 1:30 p.m. with burial at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

 Richard Teal

Richard Thomas Teal of Piedmont, 74, husband of Cheryl Penny Teal, passed away Monday, December 18, 2023.

Born in Chesterfield County, he was a son of Temple Bell Gulledge Teal of Chesterfield and the late John Robert Teal. A member of the SC National Guard, he retired from Caterpillar in Simpsonville. 

In addition to his wife and his mother, he is survived by daughter, Sarah Teal of Greenville; son, John Teal of Easley; brothers, Devoid Teal and Jimmy Teal; and sister, Annie Teal, all of Chesterfield.

   A memorial service will be held Friday, December 22, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Gray Mortuary.

Betty Hall

Betty Jo Pittman Hall of Piedmont, 90, wife of the late Lee Hall, passed awayDecember 15th, 2023.

She was the daughter of the late Claude and Velma Pittman. Her first husband was the late James Lark. She was a member of Grove Station Baptist Church. 

She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Lark Gray of Greenville; sisters, Ina Pittman Eustace of Columbus, GA and Jo Anna Pittman Looney of Piedmont; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on December 21st, at 1:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary, followed by the service at 2:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel. Burial will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorials in Betty’s name to be made to Grove Station Baptist Church, P.O. Box 545, Piedmont, SC 29673.

Gilbert McAlister, Sr.

Harold Gilbert McAlister, Sr., 84, of Williamston,  husband of 60 years to the late Grace Jeanette Keeler McAlister, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2023.

   Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Harold Guyton and Gladys Mae Ellison McAlister.  He was a retired carpenter and member of Whitefield Baptist Church.

He is survived by children, Teresa Harris of Belton and Harold McAlister, Jr., of Fountain Inn; brothers, Jack McAlister of Anderson, Stan McAlister of Greer, and Tim McAlister of Anderson; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held December 16 at Whitefield Baptist Church Cemetery.

Grace Jeanette Keeler McAlister of Williamston, 80, wife of Harold Gilbert McAlister, Sr., passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2023.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Hugh Carlisle and Hattie Louise Davis Keeler. She was formerly employed with AnMed Home Health and a member of Whitefield Baptist Church.

 In addition to her husband she is survived by daughter, Teresa Harris of Belton; son Harold McAlister, Jr. of Fountain Inn; sisters, Nancy Tharp of Piedmont and Charlene Lesley of Williamston; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held December 16 at Whitefield Baptist Church Cemetery.
