During their meeting Tuesday, Anderson County Council approved a resolution to accept a PARD grant for Dolly Cooper Park in Powdersville and rezoned property in Slabtown to allow for expansion of a landmark business.
Council also recognized the Westside Football team for winning the 4A State Championship for the first time since 1969 and the Pendleton High Marching Band for winning their fifth straight SCBDA 2A State Championship.
The Anderson County Legislative Delegation recently approved a $12,000 Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) grant for disc golf course improvements at Dolly Cooper Park. The grant requires a matching fund of $3,000. The Disc Golf Association is also providing funding for the project.
District Six Councilmember Jimmy Davis said he is very excited about the opportunities the improvements offer. “We have been working on bringing the disc golf course up to standards to attract regional and possibly national tournaments,” he said. Davis said the number of people attending a tournament will provide an economic return on the investment.
Council also approved an amendment to the zoning ordinance to rezone approximately 1.5 acres in the Three and Twenty Precinct (Council District 4) from Residential Agricultural to Rural Commercial. Rezoning will allow for commercial activity in generally rural area for the purpose of a restaurant and market facility. Grant Sullivan, who is planning to reopen the Slabtown Cafe and Market on Hwy. 88, requested the change. The existing restaurant was built prior to current zoning and a planned expansion for the new restaurant is too large for a special exemption.
Council approved the acceptance of three roads in the Parkview Glen Subdivision into the County road system including Walking Stick Way, Red Canoe Lane and Water Gap Drive. The subdivision is located in Council District 7.
Council approved third reading on a sublease agreement with Lake Hartwell Development Group LLC D/B/A The Shores of Asbury Park on Lake Hartwell.
Council approved first reading on fee in lieu agreement for “Project Turkey”. Economic Development Director Burriss Nelson said the company will bring new jobs and new opportunities into an existing spec building located at 1613 Easley Highway. The project includes an investment of $13.1 million. Nelson said another 200,000 sq. ft. spec building is planned for the site.
