TOMMY LEON BLACK

Tommy Leon Black, 69, died October 1, 2014 at Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Pelzer, he was the son of the late J. T. Black and Aileen Ragsdale Black of Pelzer.

Surviving are his wife, Sandra Holden Black; sister, Jan Black Moore of Liberty; three daughters, Lisa Black of Pelzer, Rachel Watson of Williamston, and Lynn Watson of Pottersville, MO; son, Walter Seigler, Jr. of Honea Path; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He retired from construction and was of the Baptist faith.

Memorial service was held Friday at Cox Funeral Home Chapel.

Memorials may be made to Rainey Hospice House, Anderson, SC.

GABE HUNTER

Gabriel Webster Hunter, 67, of Greenville, died Tuesday, September 30, 2014.

Born in Plant City, FL, he was a son of the late Albert Lee and Garnetta Gill Hunter.

He was on the Mauldin City Council and was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Bindseil Hunter of the home; daughters, Catherine Frederick of Powdersville, and Elizabeth Gardner of Raleigh, NC; three grandchildren; sister, Daisy H. Gant; and brother, James O. Hunter, both of Myakka City, FL.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Mackey Mortuary. Burial followed at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to a scholarship fund to Furman University, Attn: Development Office, 3300 Poinsett Highway, Greenville, SC 29613.

JESSIE BROWN

Jessie Elizabeth Woodson Brown, 86, of Piedmont, widow of Luther Gene Brown, died Wednesday, October 1, 2014.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Floyd Earl and Evie Mae Davis Woodson.

Survivors are daughter, Vickie Bright of Piedmont; sons, Randy Handcock and Michael Handcock of Piedmont; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held Sunday, October 5, in the funeral home chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed at Shiloh United Methodist Church.

POLLY R. PACE

Pauline Reeves “Polly” Pace, 90, of Pickens, wife of the late William Hancel “Hank” Pace, Sr., died Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at her home.

Born in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late Waddy Avery Reeves and Liza Jane Queen Reeves.

She retired from Singer Manufacturing and was a member of Pickens First Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Bill Pace of Pickens; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Emma Lou Grant of Pickens and Jeanette Hamlin of Piedmont; and two brothers, James Reeves of Pickens and Ray Reeves of Charleston.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 4 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

MALCOLM ‘MAC’ BRANYON

Malcolm “Mac” Branyon, died Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at the Rainey Hospice  House.

Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late Arthur Branyon and the late Emma McCurley Branyon.

He retired from Ryobi and was a member of Boulevard Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Joyce Powell Branyon; son, Gregory K. Branyon of Lumberton, NC; daughter, Angela B. Shehan of Pickens; sister, Ollie Hiott of Williamston; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial service was held Saturday, Oct. 4 at The McDougald Funeral Home.

GRADY EUGENE WATSON

Grady Eugene Watson, 93, of Greenville, died October 1, 2014 at McCall Hospice in Simpsonville. He was the son of the late Leo and Sallie Watson of Six Mile.

He was predeceased by his wife, Louise Cassell Watson.

He is survived by daughters, Rhonda Barton of Greenville and Gayle Thurn of Powdersville; two grandchildren; sister, Ruth Owen of Greenville.

He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and retired from the banking industry.

Funeral service was held Sunday, October 5 in the Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home. Interment followed at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

COREY DAWSON

PIEDMONT – Corey Hunter Dawson, 20, passed away on October 1, 2014.  He was born on October 20, 1993 to Randall Dawson and the late Tammy Davis Dawson.

He was a 2012 graduate of Wren High School and an employee of Dawson’s Guttering Service and Pilot Travel Center 063.

He was an energetic, fun-loving person who loved his friends, family, and all family functions.

He is survived by his father and stepmother, Randall and Tamera Dawson; paternal grandmother, Wilma Dawson; brother, Casey Dawson (Rachel) of Mt. Carmel, IL; stepbrother, Colten Cotner (Lori) of Mt. Carmel, IL; sister, Hannah Dawson of  Piedmont; stepsister, Deanna Moore of Mt. Carmel, IL; sister, Julia Dawson of Piedmont; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, two nieces, one nephew.

In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Steve and Reba Davis; paternal grandfather, James L. Dawson.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, October 4 at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Piedmont.

McILWAIN ‘WAIN’ ROSS

McIlwain “Wain” Ross, 71, of Easley, husband of Doris Mann Ross, died on Friday, October 3, 2014.

Born in Fork Shoals, he was the son of the late Luther Alonzo and Ida Mae Kates Ross. He was formerly employed with Eastern Steel in Columbus, GA.  He was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are children, Brad Ross, Terry Ross, Jamie Ross, Cindy Davis, Steven Lesley (Sandra); six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Grace and Marie Creamer, Gladys Ross.

Funeral service was held Sunday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

JAMES CRAWFORD

WILLIAMSTON – James Sylvester Crawford, 75, husband of Jeanette Turner Crawford, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 5, 2014.

Born in Williamston, he was the son of the late Grady Sylvester and Ruby Lee Shifflett Crawford. He retired after 45 years as maintenance supervisor with Milliken, a member at Eastview Baptist Church, Pelzer and an avid Clemson fan.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Kevin Crawford of Easley and Kyle Crawford (Ashton) of Williamston; stepchildren, Diane Cranford and Todd Hiott (Laurie), both of Anderson; sister, Lynn Brock (Jerry) of Orangeburg; grandchildren, Jackson Crawford, Kimber Bentley, Aubrie Crawford, James Lane Crawford, Jason Cranford (Elizabeth), Amber Cranford, Joshua Cranford, Carlie Taylor (Noah), Grayson Hiott and Abbie Hiott and nephews, Andy Brock (Farnoosh) and Jeremy Brock (Ann).

He was predeceased by daughter, Donna Lynn Crawford.

A visitation will be held 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 8 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The funeral will follow at 3:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Services conducted by Rev. Charles Fuller. Burial will be at Williamston Cemetery.
