PELZER-Theresa “Terri” Jeanes Spear, 49, wife of Roscoe “Rocky” Harry Spear, Jr., died Monday, April 27, 2015.

Born in Pensacola, FL, she was the daughter of Joe Henry and Sara Frances “Fran” Robinson Jeanes of Pelzer. She was a member of River Road Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by daughter, Jessica Crane (Cory) of Pelzer; son, Aaron Spear of the home; brother, Rodney Jeanes (Ralinda) of Easley; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Roscoe, Sr. and Gloria Spear of Anderson; sister-in-law, Mary Beth Green (Robert) of Anderson; brother-in-law, Michael R. Spear of Anderson; grandchild, Kain Crane of Pelzer; nieces and nephews, Isaiah and Madison Green of Anderson and Joseph, Reanna, Ryan, Jason and Jalyn Jeanes of Easley.

Visitation was from 10:00 to 11:00 am Saturday, May 2 at New Hope Baptist Church.

A memorial service followed at 11:00 am at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Hope Baptist Church, 108 New Hope Rd., Pelzer, SC 29669.

The family will be at the home of her parents, Joe & Fran Jeanes, 101 Lockaby Rd., Pelzer.

FRANCES SYCZYLO

WEAVERVILLE, NC – Frances Price Syczylo, 81, widow of Lawrence Syczylo, died Wednesday, April 29, 2015.

Born in Wrightsville, GA, she was a daughter of the late Ernest Price and Lillian Alewine Price King.  She was the sister of Randolph Price, deceased.  Frances was a gifted interior designer.

Survivors include half-sisters, JoAn Powers of Weaverville, NC and Ruby Gerisch of Belton, SC; half-brother, Charles King of Williamston, SC; step-sister Mary Reeves, Greenville, SC; step-brothers Cecil King, Piedmont, SC and Robert King, Mauldin, SC.

Visitation was held from 2-3 p.m. Sunday, May 3, 2015 at Calvary Baptist Church, Williamston, SC.

A memorial service followed at 3 pm at the church.

ARNOLD LINCOLN “RED” FINLEY

Arnold Lincoln “Red” Finley, widower of Louise Edwards Burgess Finley, of Anderson, died April 27, 2015 at National Health Care in Anderson.

Born in Pickens County, he was the son of the late Walter Ovican and Myrtle Irene Clark Finley.

He was a member of Open Door Community Church in Belton.

Surviving are sister, Ruth Gillard of Anderson; sons, Ted Burgess of Belton, John Burgess of Seneca, Walter Burgess of Belton, Tommy Burgess of Anderson; daughters, Linda Bell of Williamston, Patsy McConnell of Anderson; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was self employed as a builder.

Funeral service was held Saturday at Cox Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

CARLA DEEN CAGLE DURHAM

Carla Deen Cagle Durham, 76, of Greenville, widow of Claude Frank Durham, died Wednesday, April 29, 2015.

Born in Gainesville, GA, she was the daughter of the late Homer Clinton and Virginia Louise Cavender Cagle.

She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Greer.

Surviving are son, Tony Durham of Piedmont; one grandson; and brother, Kenneth Cagle of Easley.

Funeral service was held Saturday, May 2 at Graceland East Memorial Park.

MELVIN WOODROW JONES

Melvin Woodrow Jones, 76, of Pelzer, died Friday, April 24, 2015, eight days after the death of his wife, Katharyn.

Surviving are three sons, Duane Jones of Westminster, Gentry Jones of Holly Springs, NC, and Jody Jones of Wellford; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, Jasper Hildred and Lucy Jones.

Born in Hartsville, he was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

VICTOR LEE RAY SMITH

PIEDMONT-Victor Lee “Ray” Smith, 90, of Piedmont went to be with the Lord on May 3, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Bennettsville, SC, he was the son of the late Reverend Marion Clyde Smith and Eula Mae Brigman Smith.

In 1942, Ray graduated from Piedmont High School and married his sweetheart Margaret Elizabeth Smith. They were married for 52 years. Ray worked for Duke Power for 36 years before retiring. He has been a member of Piedmont First Baptist Church for most of his life, but has attended Washington Baptist Church in his latter years with his daughter, Amanda Gillespie.

Ray loved his family dearly and was always there to help when help was needed. Ray was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, work in his yard, and just observe nature. He was a man of simple pleasures. He also loved his “extended family” that he met with over a span of 20 years at Pete’s of Piedmont and Gus’ Streetside Café in Greenville.

Survivors include two daughters, Freda Annette Smith Hembree (Don) of Taylors and Amanda “Mandy” Lee Smith Gillespie (Brian) of Piedmont; two sisters, Sandra Elaine Smith Williams of Pinopolis, SC and Roxie “Ann” Smith Sherfinski of Moncks Corner, SC; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by brothers, Marion “Mac” Clyde Smith, Jr. and Troy “Dean” Smith; and sisters, Betty Smith Boatwright, Peggy Smith Koefed, and Mable Smith Barwick.

Visitation was from 6:30 to 8:00 pm Tuesday, May 5 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer, SC.

The service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, May 6 in the funeral home chapel.

Burial will take place after the services at Rose Hill Cemetery, Piedmont.

William Nehemiah Smith, 85, of Piedmont, husband of Mildred Pearl McMahan Smith, died Thursday, April 30, 2015.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Jonah Smith and Jesse Garrison Smith Hill.

He was a member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are four daughters, Juanita Thompson, Tina Bradley, Julie Ryan, and Angela Roberts; one son, David Lawson; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Monday, May 4 at Mt. Airy Baptist Church. Burial followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

MICHAEL SNYDER

Michael Allen Snyder, 23, died Friday, May 1, 2015 in Pelzer.

A memorial service was held Monday, May 4 in the Chapel of Fletcher Funeral Service, Fountain Inn.

He was born in Pelzer, attended Woodmont High Shcool and worked in Greenville.

He is survived by his mother, Julie Snyder of Pelzer; father, Gregory Snyder of Pelzer; sister, Amanda Snyder of Simpsonville; grandparents, Judy and Sam Snyder of Mauldin and Barbara Holliday of Destin, FL.

JOHN WEST

John Tallaferro West, III, 76, husband of Bennie Sue Bone West, of Anderson, died Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late John Tallaferro West, Jr. and Marion Gray West.

He was a member of Whitefield Baptist Church. He was a US National Guard Veteran.

Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are: sons, John T. “Jay” West, IV of Belton, Martin Gray West of Shrewsbury, MA; daughters, Anna Dean West of Magnolia, TX and Marion West Davenport of Powdersville; and seven grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Saturday at Belton Presbyterian Church.

Memorials may be made to Upstate Hospice Rainey House.
