Danny Lark

Piedmont – Daniel “Danny” James Lark, 69, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2022.

   Born in Newport News, VA, he was the son of Betty Jo Pittman Lark Hall of Piedmont and the late James Rufus Lark. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and employed with Michelin. He was a member of Grove Station Baptist Church, the American Legion Post 3, and loved his Harley Davidson t-shirts.

   In addition to his mother, he is survived by son, Cory Daniel Lark (Dustin) of Pelzer; sister, Katherine L. Gray (William P.) of Greenville; step-grandchildren, Kahne Keenan and Jaxson Gardner; and nieces, Erin Lark Gray, Leigh Gray Beasley (Justin), Kinsey Ann Gray, and Amanda Brenn Gray.

Visitation was from 1:00 – 2:00 pm Monday, November 28, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The service followed at 2:00 pm in the mortuary chapel. Burial was at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Jim “Ed” Owens

Jim Edward “Ed” Owens of Williamston, 90, husband of Ethel Youvenus Arflin Owens, passed away Sunday, November 27, 2022.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Jim Bob and Bessie Jones Owens. He retired from the Kendall Company.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Douglas Owens of Belton; brothers, Billy Ralph Owens of Belton and Marvin Owens of Anahiem, CA; one granddaughter and two great-grandsons.

   A graveside service will be held Thursday, December 1 at 1:00 p.m. at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Larry Rogers

Pelzer – Larry Monroe Rogers, 80, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2022.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Furman Eugene and Minnie Lee Mullikin Rogers.  He retired from BASF and was a member of the S.C. Army National Guard.  He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and White Plains Mason Lodge # 321.

Survivors include sister, Wilda Rogers Turner of Williamston; nephew, Jackie Turner (Connie) of Pelzer; great-nephew, Will Whitt (Jessica Selllars) of Cheddar; great-niece, Brittany Miller (Shawn) of Pelzer; great-great nephew, Maverick Miller of Pelzer.

He was predeceased by brothers, Derrill and Aubrey Rogers.

Those who would like to pay their respects may do so Saturday, November 26 from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.  

   A graveside service was held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 27, at Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery with Masonic Rites.

   The family will be at the home of his great-nephew, Will Whitt, 435 Mize Road, Belton.

Sara Jo Davenport

Anderson – Sara Jo Ann Barnett Davenport, 84, passed away Sunday, November 27, 2022.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late Wade Zacchaeus and Helen Mullinax Barnett. She was a member of Refuge Baptist Church, Pendleton.

She is survived by daughter, Patti Roper (Ken) of Pendleton; son, Mike Davenport (Bonnie) of Anderson; sister, Judy Moore of Hartwell, GA; grandchildren, Brittney Davenport Autry (Jon) and Hampton Davenport; and great-grandchild, Marlee Autry.

She was predeceased by brother, Doug Barnett.

Visitation will be from 2:00 to 3:00 pm Thursday, December 1, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The service will follow at 3:00 pm in the mortuary chapel. Burial will be at Pine Lawn Cemetery.

Ron Stafford

Ronald John Patrick “Ron” Stafford of Pelzer, 75, husband of Fay Bryant Fennell Stafford, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2022.

Born in Hackensack, NJ, he was the son of the late John Vincent and Lillian Fredricka Crandall Stafford. Having retired from NuVox Communications, Ron was a former co-owner of Carolina Online Communications and was also the former owner of Sand Flea 3. He was of the Catholic faith.

 In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Dwayne Fennell of Anderson; daughters, Cindy Fennell Guest of Cheddar and Denise Fennell Ayers of Anderson; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and Cooper Thomas Fennell on the way.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 30, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary. The funeral will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel, with burial at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Michael B. Rider

HONEA PATH – Former longtime paramedic, Mason and reserve police officer Michael Bruce Rider, 74, passed away Nov. 22, 2022, at his home on North Main Street.

Born on Nov. 14, 1948, he was the son of the late Frances Holland Rider and Kenneth Floyd Rider. He was the husband of 32 years of Elaine Ellison-Rider.

An emergency services EMT and paramedic for more than 30 years, he served with Honea Path EMS/Rescue Squad, Medshore, Laurens County and Greenwood County EMS.

Michael began in EMS at the Belton Rescue Squad in the late 1980s as a volunteer. 

He was also a former reserve police officer with the town of Honea Path and, briefly, was a volunteer firefighter with the town. He also tutored and helped train many EMS personnel. Prior to his EMS service, he managed apartments in Belton, worked in maintenance and was employed at Anderson School District Two in maintenance.

A graduate of A.C. Flora High School in Columbia, he attended Columbia College and Miami Christian College, as well as earned certification in EMS. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Honea Path and Belton #130 AFM Masonic Lodge. 

In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by daughters, Ashley Rider Gage of Abbeville and Kristen Ellison of Anderson; grandchildren, Dakota Murphy of Troy, Logan Gage of Trenton, Isaac Ford II of Graniteville, Ashton Gage of Abbeville, and Halo Wheeler, Kyle and Michael Williams, all of Anderson; half-brothers, Ray and Norman Rider of California; sister-in-law, Lynn Robinson (Scott) of Belton; brother-in-law, Richard Ellison (Mandy) of Seneca; and numerous “adopted” family and friends, as well as cousins who were like siblings. 

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his mother- and father-in-law, Doris and Frank Ellison; and numerous cousins, family and friends. 

Memorial Services with Masonic Rites were held November 27, 2022 at Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Joey Mitchell officiating.
