Ronnie Wright

Ronald “Ronnie” Dale Wright of Williamston, 70, husband of Sandra “Sandi” Lee Holsenback Wright, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2023.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Rufus Wright and Helen Gillespie Pressley. He was a member of Lifespring Church of God, Powdersville.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Shane Reeves of Easley; daughters, Tonya Dale Dotson of Starr and Kersha Dawn Wright of the home; brother, Wayne Revis of Greenville; sisters, Joyce Stinziano of MS and Carolyn Blakley of FL; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation was February 6 at Lifespring Church of God, 405 Piedmont Rd., Easley, SC 29642. The service followed in the church. Burial was at Ebenezer Cemetery, 30 Ebenezer Rd., Travelers Rest, SC 29690.

Chad Davenport

Pelzer – Chad Newton Davenport, 49, husband of Tonja Davis Davenport, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2023.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Roy Newton Davenport and Joyce Ellison Davenport.  He was employed by Piedmont Natural Gas and was a member of Guthrie Grove Church of God of Abrahamic Faith.

His greatest joy was coaching and cheering on his children, and many other young people on the baseball and softball field.

 In addition to his wife and Mother, he is survived by sons, Bryson Davenport (fiancé Kayla Yordy), and Brady Davenport; and daughter, Brooklyn Davenport all of the home; brother, Craig Davenport (Jodi); and sister, Krista Timmerman (Robbie); nephews and nieces, Max (Carly); Cole, and Kamden Davenport; and Olivia, Caroline, and Miles Timmerman; and great niece, Delilah Davenport.

Visitation was held Tuesday, February 7, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary.

   A graveside service will be held Wednesday, February 8, at 3:00 p.m. at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Bennett Alan Brooks

September 20, 1960 – January 28, 2023

 Bennett Alan Brooks, 62, of Belton, SC, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, January 28, 2023.

 Born on September 20, 1960, he was the son of Racine Webb Owings and the late William I. (Bill) Brooks.

Benny was preceded in death by his grandparents, James Allen and Louise Kelly Webb of Belton and Truman Herman and Gladys Saylors Brooks of Belton.  His stepfather Joe Thomas Owings, his sisters Sally Brooks Moorhead and JoBeth Owings Ouzts; also his cousin Matt Brooks.

 He is survived by his wife, Cathy Brooks of Williamston, daughter Alana Brooks and grandson Connor Brooks of Charleston. He is also survived by his sisters Melissa Brooks of California; Vicki Brooks Miller of Anderson and Laurie Brooks Helman (Joey) of Belton as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition he is survived by his stepsisters Barbara Owings Lanier (Alton) of Simpsonville, Gloria Owings Ivey (George) of Texas, Phyllis Owings Emerine of John’s Island; stepbrother Steve Owings (Margaret) of Greenwood.

 Benny was a mason, a member of Latimer Memorial United Methodist Church, graduate of Belton-Honea Path High School class of 1978 of which he remained an avid supporter of the BHP Bears, and a graduate of Greenville Technical College. He was also a proud fan of the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Atlanta Braves. He was the owner and operator of Piedmont Dental Services and proudly served the upstate for over 30 years. He was known for his ability to repair any and all things broken, and his unique sense of humor. He could be found playing golf, fishing, hunting, and spending quality time with his beloved family.

 The family is at their respective homes and will gather at a later date to honor his memory.

Sara Banks

Sara Frances Pearson Banks of Pelzer, 96, wife of the late William Ross Banks, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2023.

 Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Broadus and Annie Elizabeth Coker Pearson. She was a member of Reedy Fork Baptist Church and a homemaker. 

Survivors include son, Bill Banks of Liberty; daughter, Diane Bledsoe of Pelzer; five grandsons; twelve great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

 Visitation will be held Thursday, February 9, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Gray Mortuary. A graveside service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Mary Ann Davis

Mary Ann Ard Davis of Easley, 71, wife of the late James Boney Davis, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2023.

Born in Florence, she was a daughter of the late Henry Clifton Ard, Sr., and Mary Cornelia Pope Ard.  She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her children, James Scott Davis of Moncks Corner, Clifford Edwin Davis of Anderson, Mary Christina Crocker of Walhalla, and Stephen Jay Davis of Anderson; brothers, Henry Clifton Ard, Jr., and Larry Joe Ard of Moncks Corner; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held Wednesday, February 8, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at Gray Mortuary.  The service followed at 2:00 pm in the mortuary chapel.

Margaret Poston

Anderson – Margaret JoAn Poston 81, of Anderson, SC, formerly of Barnwell, SC, died on Saturday, February 4, 2023, in the skilled section of Foothills Retirement Community Center.  Born May 21, 1941, in Blackville SC, she is predeceased by her late husband of 49 years, Samuel Lawton “Dick” Poston.

JoAn was a strong woman.  She was a loving wife, mother, “Nana” and sister.  She was active in the Barnwell United Methodist Church where she and her husband were youth leaders for seventeen years.  JoAn worked for Gillam and Associates as an office manager for over 30 years.  She relocated to Anderson in 2003 where she became a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Williamston, SC.

JoAn is survived by her children: Sherri Clouse (Jeff) and Terri Cortez (Chuck); grandchildren, Margaret White (Trevor), Megan Wilson (Andrew), Heather Jenkins (Jake), Katie Cassidy (Austin), Matthew Clouse (Victoria), and Rebekah Cortez; great grandchildren, Lucie Layleigh, and Lawton White; two sisters, Patsy Laird-Bates and Becky Mise (Bobby).

Funeral Services will be held at Calvary Baptist Church in Williamston on Wednesday, February 8, at 2:00 pm, with the Reverend Mark Roberts and Dr. Joseph Gaston officiating.  The family will receive visitors from 1:00 to 2:00 pm prior to the service at the church.  Entombment will follow at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Anderson.

Faye Kelly

Florence Faye Garner Kelly of Belton, 85, wife of the late James Donald Kelly, passed away Tuesday, February 07, 2023.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Joe and Clara McElrath Garner. She retired from Young’s Lures and was a member of Crossroads Assembly of God.

   She is survived by daughter, Melinda Faye Page of Fountain Inn; sons, David Lee Kelly of the home; Michael Wayne Kelly of Williamston, James Leon Kelly of Piedmont, and Robert Darrell Kelly of Williamston; sisters, Cindy Womac of TX and Becky Ginn of Belton; brother, Ray Garner of Pelzer; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, February 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Pine Lawn Cemetery.

Sheila Wyle

Sheila Charlene Shelton Wyle of Easley, 64, wife of  Matthew Alan Wyle, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2023 at her home.

Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late Calvin Shelton and Margaret Ann Gillespie. She was a homemaker.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Danny Chambers, Jr. of Williamston and Tony Chambers of Anderson; and two grandsons.

Visitation will be Friday, February 9, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary. The funeral will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel, with burial at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Donald Blackstone

Donald Wayne Blackstone of Williamston, 84, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

   Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late James Orville and Ella Mae Pittman Blackstone.  He retired from Siemens and was a member of River Road Baptist Church.  He was also a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include sisters, Nina Satterfield of Easley and Lillian McDonald of Highland, MI.

 The family received friends February 4 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. A graveside service followed at White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery.

Bruce Elwell

 Gerald Bruce Elwell of Piedmont, 78, husband of Birthe Jensen Elwell, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

   Born in Savannah, GA, he was a son of the late Earl Benjamin and Margaret T. Pack Elwell. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and retired from Anderson Brothers Trucking Co. He was a member of Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith.

   In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Christie E. Clark of Suwanee, GA and Jennifer L. Elwell of San Antonio, TX; brothers, Ron Elwell of Duncan and Greg Elwell of Piedmont; and two grandchildren.

Visitation was February 4 at Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith. The service followed in the church. Burial was in the church cemetery.

David Harvell

Williamston – David Randall “Pops” Harvell, 79, husband of Martha Jo Davenport Harvell, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2023.

   Born in Belton, he was a son of the late Albert and Sara Elizabeth Ripley Harvell. He was a U.S. Navy and SC Army National Guard veteran, owner of Old Time Body Shop, and retired from Anderson School District I & II Career and Technology Center. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and many other areas, Williamston Fire Department for forty-two years, Williamston Town Council Member for over twenty years, and Williamston Masonic Lodge #24 member.

   In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Krystal H. Cantrell (Bill) of Williamston; son, Rev. Michael Joe Harvell (Joy) of Belton; brother, Jimmy Lee Harvell (Ellen) of Williamston; grandchildren, Gracie Eaton (Dylan), Hope Harvell, Will Cantrell and Silas Cantrell; and great-grandchild, Addi Jo Eaton.

   He was predeceased by brother, Donald Ray Harvell.

   Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday, February 9, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

   The service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, February 10 at Calvary Baptist Church.

   Burial will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, February 24, at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery.
