Jeff Smith

Jeffrey Neil “Jeff” Smith of Liberty, 57, husband of Mary Katherine Hill Smith, passed away Monday, August 21, 2023.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Odell James Smith and Dessie Rhee Sims Smith Ford. He was formerly employed with O’Charley’s. 

In addition to his wife of Taylors, he is survived by daughters, Brittany Smith of Liberty and Sandy Smith of Taylors; brothers, James Smith of Houston, TX, Ricky Smith of Pelzer, and Alan Smith of Liberty; sister, Kimberly Monroe of Piedmont; four grandchildren.

 A memorial service was held Saturday, August 26, at Pelzer Church of God.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National M.S. Society – Greater Carolinas Chapter, P.O. Box 289, Canton, MA 02021 (or by phone, 1-800-344-4867).

Billy Elgin

Billy Ray Elgin, of Williamston, 64, husband of Beth Elaine Jones Elgin, passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at his home.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Grady Alonzo Elgin and Edith Samples Elgin Gallman.  He retired from Kemet Electronics.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Justin Elgin of Pelzer; brothers, Larry Elgin of Aiken and Randy Elgin of Easley; sister, Debbie Morlock of Greenville; and other family members.

A visitation was held. Sunday, August 27, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

Homer Clardy

Homer Livingston Clardy, of Pelzer, 95, husband of the late Jessie Ann Beasley Clardy, passed away Monday, August 28, 2023.

   Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Aldine Butler “A.B.” and Eula Endora Ellison Clardy. A U.S. Marine veteran having served in the Korean War, he retired from Metromont Materials and later worked at Innervision. He was a member of White Plains Baptist Church. He is survived by daughters, Beckye Clardy of the home, Sherry Crawford of Williamston, and Kathy Clardy Smith of Williamston; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 pm Thursday, August 31, at White Plains Baptist Church. The service will follow in the church at 2:00 pm.

Burial will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, September 2, at Greenville Memorial Garden.

 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to White Plains Baptist Church, Building Fund, 1435 Easley Hwy., Pelzer, SC 29669.

Michelle Clark

Michelle Allaina Gault Clark of Piedmont, 43, wife of William Clifton Pat Clark, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2023.

Born in Greenville County, she was the daughter of Annette Jessica Leopard Cooper of Piedmont and Mike Gault of Fork Shoals. She was formerly employed with Boys Home of the South. 

In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by her children, Kendra Marie Barbre, Able, Jack, Lillie, and Wyatt Aaron Clark, all of Piedmont; and brother, Jamie Gault of Pelzer.

A private service will be held.

We may not always know why, but God always takes the best of us first.

Phillip Marshall “Phil” Hughey, of Williamston, 35, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2023.

Born in Greenville County, he was the son of Mildred Darlene “Millie” Counts of the home and Don Martin Hughey of Ohio.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a son, Bradley Stamey of Pendleton and Kamry Brown of Williamston; grandmother, Evelyn Counts of Williamston; sisters, Natosha Ann Stone of the home and Casey Darlene Lee (Kenny) of Anderson; one niece and three nephews.

Visitation will be from 3:00 to 4:00 pm Saturday, September 2, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

A candlelight memorial service will be held Saturday, September 2, at 7:30 p.m. on Cox Lake Road in Belton.
