Shelby Hayes

Shelby Jean Moody Hayes of Honea Path, 86, widow of Charles Hayes, passed away Monday, October 16, 2023.

   Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie Wydman and Florence Alexander Moody.  She was formerly employed with J.P. Stevens, a member of Pelzer Church of God, and a veteran of the United States Air Force.

Survivors include sons, Tony Butler of Winter Haven, FL and Ted Butler of the home; sisters, Alice Iola Moody Durham of Williamston, Martha Montez Moody Reed of Pelzer, and Connie Sandra Moody Mackey of Williamston; and grandson.

No services are planned at this time.

Jim Owens

James Earl “Jim” Owens of Greenville, 83, passed away Monday, October 16, 2023.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Alvin Rudolph Owens and Rachel Jane Brown Owens McAlister. He retired from IKON as well as Brown Trucking Company and was a member of Pelzer Church of God.

Survivors include a brother, Don Owens of Taylors.

   A graveside service will be held Friday, October 20, at 11:00 a.m. at Graceland Cemetery West.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pelzer Church of God, P.O. Box 276, Pelzer, SC 29669.

Joy Seigler

Joy Rachel Simmons Seigler of Piedmont, 59, wife of Horace Dewayne Seigler, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2023.

 Born in Williamston, she was the daughter of the late William Roberts Simmons and Rachel Helen Capps Smith.  She was formerly employed with Piedmont Drywall and Acoustics.

 In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Brandon Dewayne Seigler of Piedmont and Horace Matthew Seigler of Pelzer; brother, Wallace Simmons of Calhoun Falls; step-sisters, Dutchess Simmons Lang, Dawn Simmons Aroar, and Sonya Simmons Yates, all of NC; one  granddaughter,and one step-granddaughter.

   No services are planned at this time.

Jeannie Lawrence

Jeannie Doreen Romport Lawrence of Easley, 74, passed away Monday, October 16, 2023.

   Born in East Point, GA, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Romport, Sr. and Dorothy Mae Shackleford Romport. She was formerly employed with Bill’s Dollar Store and was a lifetime caregiver.

Survivors include daughters, Trudy Sorrells of Piedmont, Tracy Brown of Easley, and Terry Jones of Dallas, GA; son, Joshua Lawrence of Liberty; brother, David Romport of McDonough, GA; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

 A graveside service will be held Thursday, October 19, at 4:00 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery, with visitation to follow at the graveside.

Christine Gross

Lela Christine Gross of Piedmont, 88, wife of the late Ralph Eugene Gross, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2023.

   Born in Cashiers, NC, she was a daughter of the late Henry James Evitt, Sr. and Gerstell Janie Moss Evitt. She retired from Fiber Industries and was a member of Emmanuel Full Gospel Tabernacle.

Survivors include a brother, Harley Evitt of Piedmont; four nieces and six nephews, sister-in-law, Linda Evitt of Piedmont.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 19, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary. The funeral will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel, with burial at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Gerald Lusk

Pelzer – Gerald Mason Lusk, 87, husband of Macy Delores Fowler Lusk, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2023.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Riley Mason and Nellie Elizabeth Gambrell Lusk. He retired from Milliken & Company.

 In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Kathy Lusk Phillips (Douglas) of Pelzer, Jerry Mitchell Lusk (Susan) of Honea Path, and Judy Lusk Ely (Tim) of Hickory Tavern; sister, Lucille Rhodes of Piedmont; brothers, John and Ray Lusk, both of Pelzer; seven grandchildren; and twenty-two great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by sisters, Betty Johnson and Estelle Henderson; and brother, Ken Lusk.

 Visitation was Tuesday, October 17, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, October 18, at 12:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel, with burial to follow at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Evelyn Hendricks

 Evelyn Lucille Chastain Hendrick of Belton, 91, wife of the late Leonard Glenn Hendricks, passed away Friday, October 13, 2023.

Born in Six Mile, she was a daughter of the late Tillman Roland and Lucy Merck Chastain.  She retired from Kemet and was a member of Daventon Baptist Church.

She is survived by daughters, Nancy Watson of Pelzer, Kathy Hendricks of Belton, and Pam Brown of Port St. Lucie, FL; and son, Buck Hendricks of Simpsonville; sisters, Joann Newton and Jean Turner of Easley; and brother, B.F. Chastain of Easley; nine grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

 Visitation will be held Sunday, October 22, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

The funeral service will be October 23 in the mortuary chapel, with burial following at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Betty Cothran

Pelzer – Betty Jo Bannister Cothran, 79, wife of Charles Richard “Rick” Cothran, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2023.

Born in Belton, she was a daughter of the late Troy and Mattie Lee Jordan Bannister. A former member of Cedar Shoals Baptist Church, she served as a longtime church secretary, Sunday School and Good News Club teacher, children’s choir director, as well as church organist. She was currently a member of Washington Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Chris Cothran (Pam) and Kevin Cothran (Candace), both of Pelzer; sister, Patsy Bair (Lanny) of West Pelzer; grandchildren, Caleb Allison (Kylie), Patrick, Carter, Kalyn, Camryn, Kendall, and Conner Cothran; and great-grandchildren, Sophia and C.L. Allison, and Steven Cothran.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 19, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary.

The funeral will be Friday, October 20, at 2:00 p.m. at Washington Baptist Church, with burial to follow at Cedar Shoals Baptist Church Cemetery.

Bill Talbert

William Charles “Bill” Talbert of Waterloo, 72, husband of Linda Diane Simpson Talbert, passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2023.

Born in Washington D.C., he was a son of the late Ewing Jackson and Mary Bevis Talbert. A U.S. Coast Guard veteran, he retired from Lewallen Automation and was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church in Greenwood.

   In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, William “Billy” Talbert, II and Jonathan Talbert of Hesston, PA; step-children, Shannon Wilson of Lexington, SC, Tonya Strickland of Fullerton, CA, Michael Strickland of Greenwood, and Tracey Hobson of Piedmont; half-brother, Frank Cone of Honea Path; seventeen grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation was October 16 at Gray Mortuary. A graveside service followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

 A celebration of life service held Sunday, October 15, at the 11:00 a.m. worship service at Lakeview Baptist Church.

Joe Sullivan

Easley – Joe Edwin Sullivan, 56, passed away Monday, October 16, 2023.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Jimmy Rogers Sullivan, Sr. and Evelyn Louise Brookie Sullivan. He retired from Anderson County School District One, where he served as custodian for Wren High School. He was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church and was a volunteer firefighter with Three and Twenty Fire Department.

 Survivors include Jim Sullivan, Jr. and J. Keith Sullivan, both of Easley; aunt, Charleen Rogers (Joe) of Pendleton; and “brother”, Brad Hart of Williamston.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, October 19, at 1:00 p.m. at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, with visitation to follow at the graveside.
