Kathryn Bagwell

Kathryn Durham Bagwell of West Pelzer, 95, wife of the late John Carl Bagwell, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2024.

   Born in West Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late Eddie Albert and Pearl Bargoil Durham. Mrs. Bagwell was a member of West Pelzer Baptist Church and was active in her community. .

She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Owen of Hilton Head Island; her son, Ron Bagwell of Flowery Branch, GA; granddaughters, Teresa Snipes of Hilton Head Island, Julie Hinson \ of Tomball, TX, Amanda Knope of Greenville, and Lucy Bagwell of Flowery Branch, GA; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Also surviving are her brother, Sam Durham of West Pelzer, and her sister, Dot Chapman of Anderson.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 1, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Gray Mortuary. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Pelzer Baptist Church, 29 Main Street, West Pelzer, SC 29669; or to Intrepid USA (Hospice), 75 A Towne Drive, Suite 101, Bluffton, SC 29910.

Martha Ann Owens

Martha Ann Crone Owens of Belton, 80, wife of Samuel Dennis “Sam” Owens, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2024.

Born in Easley, she was a daughter of the late Fred Sylvia and Ruby Lee Capps Crone. She retired from J.P. Stevens – Estes Plant. She attended Bessie Road Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters, Sherrie Blanton Bishop of Crystal River, FL and Sindy Victoria Blanton of Greenwood; son, James Eldridge “Jimmy” Blanton of Belton; sister, Dorothy Crone Parsons of Belton; brother, Jamie Earl Crone of Washington, D.C.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation was held January 28 at Gray Mortuary.

The funeral was Monday, January 29 in the mortuary chapel, with entombment at Greenville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Eleanor Ziegler

Eleanor Marion Ferrin Ziegler of Pelzer, 90, widow of Roland Kenneth Ziegler, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2024.

Born in Hillside, NJ, she was a daughter of the late Wendell Lee and Marion Cordelia Foley Ferrin. She was formerly employed with Family Holy Manor Nursing Home in Bethlehem, NJ.

Survivors include a sister, Diane S. Campbell of Pelzer. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Greenville Humane Society, 305 Airport Rd., Greenville, SC 29607.

   No services are planned at this time.

Steve Stringer

Stephen “Steve” Keith Stringer of Piedmont, 71, passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2024.

   Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late William Elmer and Dorothy Wilson Stringer. He retired from Mt. Vernon Mills and was a Baptist. 

   He is survived by daughter, Connie Ketchum of Pelzer; son, Keith Stringer of Piedmont; brother, William Wilson of Piedmont; sisters, Kathy Ferguson of Liberty and Betty Roach of Westminster; three grandchildren, and longtime girlfriend, Trish Fricks of Williamston.

The family received friends, January 27 at the home of Connie Ketchum.

Russell Payne

Russell Alan Payne of Pelzer, 65, passed away Friday, January 26, 2024.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of Elbert Jackson and Doris Nervie Roach Payne of Pelzer. A U.S. Army veteran, he was formerly employed with King Enterprises.

He is survived by a son, Anthony Payne of Pelzer; daughter, Stephanie Denne of Bracebridge, Ontario, Canada; sister, Darlene Crosby of West Columbia; brother, Chuck Jordan of Columbia; and four grandchildren.

   Visitation was January 28 at Gray Mortuary.

A graveside service was held Monday, January 29, at Graceland East Memorial Park.

Christopher Lollis

Christopher “Chris” Thomas Lollis of Easley, 58, husband of Melissa Diane Charles Lollis, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2024.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of Barbara Delores Robinson Hickey and the late Thomas “Tommy” Roy Lollis.  He was a U.S. Army veteran and a reservist with the National Guard. He was a member of Wayside Baptist Church in Easley. 

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by daughters, Kelly Lollis Lee of Greenville and Brittany Harris of Anderson; sons, Jarod Woody of Laurens, Eric Woody and Bryson Lollis, both of Pickens County; brother, Allen Keith of Greenville County; 8 grandchildren.

   The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

The funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, February 1, at Gray Mortuary Chapel with burial following at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery, Anderson.

Robert Campbell

Piedmont – Campbell of Piedmont, 51, husband of Kimberly Faye Owens Campbell, passed away Friday, January 26, 2024.

Born in Killeen, TX, he was the son of Hilda Campbell of Greenwood and the late Daniel L. Campbell of Williamston. He was a former member of the SC National Guard and employed with Liftex Corporation. 

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by daughter, Lauren Cabaniss of Williamston; sons, Josh Campbell of Greenwood, Caleb Campbell and Jacob Campbell, both of Williamston; sister, Stacy Campbell Alnazli of Mauldin; two grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 pm Thursday, February 1, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, February 2, in the mortuary chapel. Burial will follow at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

The family will be at the home of his wife in Williamston.

Mary Evatt

Mary Jane Monroe Evatt, of Piedmont,  85, formerly of Belton, wife of the late James Arthur Evatt, passed away Friday, January 26, 2024.

Born in Piedmont, she was a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Nancy Abigail Anders Monroe. She retired from J.P. Stevens Estes and a member of Piedmont Church of God.

She is survived by sons, James Evatt of Williamston and Mike Evatt of Piedmont; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Visitation was January 30 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The service followed in the mortuary chapel with burial at Rose Hill Cemetery.
